We must always keep in mind that the goal of the Biden administration was to destroy America.

Not sure why anything needed to be done. Biden seemed to be fine with what was going on over there as were his supporters.

I was going to say “watch Trump say something crazy to undermine little Marco’s foreign policy W”, guess didn’t even wait for the plane to land.

My guess is Trump thinks the Chinese will just scrap their ports or something?

There's no telling what actually happened, what any plans are, or what anyone thinks. It's just the typical Trumpy negotiating and governing by sound bite.

Astounding that adult Americans can't bring themselves to step off this transactional political merry-go-round, where the only thing that really matters is the prattling of the totally uninformed Criminal-in-Chief.

I guess this is like the Gaza hostage deal : we'll wait to see what Daddy says further before we know whether to cheer or...... do whatever else Daddy might say.

But if he says 'good', make sure to cheer!! For him!!

A big mistake to cede it over to Panama.
Carter did this based on emotion, without concern for actual strategic issues that might appear later.

No, Panama did not pay for the Panama Canal. The United States paid for the construction of the Panama Canal, which opened in 1914.
    Explanation
    • The United States paid Panama $10 million and an annual annuity of $250,000 in exchange for a 10-mile wide strip of land for the canal.
    • The United States also purchased French equipment and excavations for $40 million.
    • The Panama Canal was the most expensive construction project in the United States at the time.
    • The United States operated the canal until 1999, when Panama took full control.

I thought Trump's issue with the canal was they were ripping us off and over charging us? So we're good, now?

Nevermind, just saw the link that Trump is still upset about something and ready to invade. Trump wants to be Putin so bad. I guess these initial responses here that Rubio fixed everything were fake news.

Seems like Trump's unhinged threats are more reason for Panama to buddy up with China and any other nation that will help them Protect their sovereignty from an unprovoked American attack. Sad to say this, but if Trump does attack Panama, I hope they and whoever will assist them can put up a good fight long enough -- until we get a new president who isn't a Putin wannabe. I mean, we look at history and ask "why'd all those Germans / Japanese follow their horrible leaders?" ... seems like Trump wants to put Americans on that list.

Ahh… so globalism is a good thing. We should be a colonial power with bases all over the world, even subjugating foreign nations and stealing their land and resources under military threat.

Must be the Monday argument. The Tuesday MAGA discussion will be on the evils of globalism, and how U.S. is not the world’s police. Wednesday? Stay tuned for the MAGA magic 8 ball.

Meh. If China wants to spend their money to improve infrastructure in our hemisphere - infrastructure we could take in 2 seconds - let them. Another stupid, purely symbolic move that accomplishes nothing of consequence.

Meanwhile, in the White House. . . . Elon has Xi on speed dial. But, hey, at least we stopped China from building infrastructure that benefits us more than them and that we could take for ourselves in a matter of seconds if we wanted it.

    So much winning it hurts!

    Not really. Dig deeper.

We (US Military) already get first access to the canal. That means we bump any ship out of line. THEY (Panama) pay for most of the maintenance. And as much as I can't stand the CCP, if they want to build free infrastructure in our hemisphere in a place where it benefits us more than them (and could be claimed by us in seconds), have at it!

Not really, which is why this is stupid. China has no ability to protect those bases or prevent them from being nationalized by Panama or forcibly taken by us. Put CIA on them like a glove and let them spend as much as they want to improve infrastructure that benefits us more than them.

Slightly OT: Take the source for what it is… the question to me is why the US allows the CCP to have anything on US port security?

“The report reveals how Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC)––a company owned and operated in the People’s Republic of China (PRC)––dominates the global market share of ship-to-shore (STS) port cranes, and how the PRC’s broader maritime infrastructure dominance creates significant cybersecurity and national security vulnerabilities for both the United States and our allies. ZPMC currently accounts for nearly 80 percent of the STS cranes in operation at U.S. ports. The report also outlines strategies for how the United States can lead the way in addressing the risks posed by the CCP’s maritime activities and promote a more secure global maritime infrastructure. In addition, a classified annex is available to members and appropriately cleared staff. The lawmakers issue following statement upon releasing the investigation’s findings.”

Is it possible that Trump is playing a good cop bad cop type of negotiation. Countries have used the threat of doing something stupid to get us to agree to stuff and now Trump is threatening all the nonsense and Rubio is going behind him and getting better deals.

What concerns me with this nonsense is it might work in the short term but our standing in the world might suffer. We shall see what the future holds.
