A good chunk of why it was so bad for us was because many people (including yourself ) refused to listen. Other nations did somewhat better.

The key to better outcomes was less about government regulations and mandates and more about having an educated and patriotic populace who care about the country and others as much or more than themselves. We do not fit that description.
