Eagles fan here. Ya wanna get under Jones skin? I know an easy way....................ask him this: "Hey Jerry, how many NFC championship games has your team participated in since 2000"? and Jerry how many NFC championship games have the Eagles and Jeff Lurie played in since 2000?
I never saw Belichick do a thing during games except stand on the sideline and frown. As far as I could tell, he was a "great" coach only because of Tom Brady, just like Cam Newton's coach at Auburn was "great" because of Cam Newton, and Jimbo Fisher was "great" because of Jameis Winston and Travis Jordan (or Jordan Travis, I could never get it straight). But I guess I'm missing something about Belichick.
Bill is good no doubt but its the jimis and joes that make it possible to actually win. You cant scheme talent.
Jones is such a putz. Talk about a vain old man. (I got more money than you), I'm this, I'm that blah blah blah. Anyone catch his recent diatribes? Such a control freak. I find when FSU and the Dallas Piss Poor Boys are competing for whom has the worst / most garbage season, in their respective leagues, it is entertaining.
I am an enthusiastic supporter of Jones continued General Managing and Coaching of the Dallas Cowboys. For those that say (well that's not exactly true), I say B.S. Watch the Dallas additions of Hard Knocks from the last 30 years. Dude makes all the decisions. ALL of THEM. I wonder if Jones has ever thought: Why can't any of these former Super Bowl winning coaches win for me? LOL (Mr. Jones, place self in front of mirror and re-ask yourself this question)! I know the money is a great attraction for potential coaches, and Dallas has history and tremendous resources. But hey, now that Al Davis is dead and Snyder is gone from Washington, is there ANY owner out there that would be more of a nightmare to work for than Jones? Jones thinks because he "watched" Jimmie Johnson and Dallas win Superbowls back in the 90's, that "HE" Jones, is the end all and be all of the sport. I hope he never sniffs the playoffs again myself.
Their last in the 90's was with Jimmy Johnson and I think that relationship was only able to survive as long as it did because of his and Jerry's Arkansas connection.
OR.....OR.........Johnson read the writing on the wall and did not want to be Jones little bitch and tear apart everything he (Johnson) built.
SEC Storied did an episode called “Before They Were Cowboys” about Jimmy and Jerry. They were roommates and friends at Arkansas. Frank Broyles told Jerry that him and Jimmy would not get along well working together. Also, Switzer and none other than our own Doug Dickey were on that Arkansas staff along with a few other future head coaches
That might be an accurate statement, but... Jones was great in his cameo in 'Landman', with Billy Bob Thornton. Ha! In other news, I almost crashed today doing the Gator Chomp to another driver with a Gator License Plate frame. He chomped back. Made my day. Go Basketball, Go Baseball Go Football! Rock on Gators. Go Gators.
I've never thought JJ was much of an owner and his record since 2000 seems to bear that opinion out. He's seemingly too driven by ego and the need for notoriety to restrain himself from succumbing from his own worst instincts. As I recall, there was a lot of turmoil about the Landry firing way back when, but that apparently blew over with the early success of the Jimmy Johnson era. Since Johnson left though, Jerry and the cowboys have pretty much been put out to pasture, so to speak.
There is no now. It has been n always. Since Jimmy Johnson won big, and he was great friends and former Arkansas teammates with Jerry, Jerry has since been the top dog and every coach, including a certain former Oklahoma coach who won, is a puppet to control. It has always been so. Nothing new. Schotty will do the best with what he can do, and is allowed to do. Period. There is no mystery here. As has been stated on many pro talk shows by experts…any really good coach would not only require/ demand control over the team…he would demand a new general manager who would support his hiring/ firing/ building roster program. So, if the first part is a serious no go, the second part is a ARE YOU KIDDING ME THE OWNER WOULD NEVER DO THAT. The scenario will never change. Schotty will do what he can. This will not be an epiphany moment.
A number of years ago I was in Denver and I needed to make an urgent visit to a local chiropractor before flying home. One guy agreed to see me and in his office there was a lot of Cowboys paraphernalia — a 2’ X 3’ picture of a player in uniform with #20, multiple other pictures, along with footballs and helmets. He said he was with the Cowboys for a couple years. He got in maybe a couple games but was mostly scout team. One day one of the coaches called him in and said, “Sorry, Mr. Jones has let you go.” The doc asked why and the coach proceeded to describe a few mistakes that were unacceptable. The doc responded, “That was #22, I’m #20.” The coach said, “Well that’s a bummer, but Mr. Jones has made up his mind and I’m not going back to him.” The consolation for the guy was that he had made enough money to pay for chiropractor school without any debt. But I could tell there was longing in his voice that he really wished he could’ve played longer.
