Donovan and Golden were both head coaches previously. Doing the job before should be a prerequisite in the SEC. This is not the sunbelt. I don’t care about age I care about not being a development ground for coaches like a sunbelt school. We are 19-19 under Billy we have no room for growing pains anymore.
Perfectly reasonable hire as a safety coach....lot of upside and should be a great recruiter. He's not going to be calling the defense, people need to stop with that
So many people are getting hung up on the "Co-Dc" title. Bama has: 1 DC 2 Co-DC's 1 OC 1 CO-OC 2 assistant Head Coaches 1 associate Head Coach 1 Head Coach. Hell Jamarcus Sheppard holds 3 titles. Assistant Head coach, Co-OC and wide receiver Coach. Essentially any Coach who has a hand in the defensive game planning is by definition a Defensive Coordinator, I would imagine, position Coaches are quite involved in the game planning for their position groups, so why are we now getting so up in arms on the CO-DC role?
Ive been with my company for 22 years, 19 of those as management, (I'll be 42 this year) and we've always been taught to not be afraid to hire your potential replacement. That's how you build a strong staff. Hiring people you believe won't rise up the ladder of success only cements your place as a mediocre and stagnant staff.
Donovan’s lone HC experience before UF was Marshall and Golden’s was San Francisco U. CBN’s was U Louisiana. Very similar HC ing Resumes. I will add that SOS was 32 years old with no college head coaching experience when Duke took a chance on him and that worked out pretty well. I understand your position and it’s not unreasonable and surely not uncommon. It’s just not how I feel about the situation we are in. Im not 100% sure CBN is our guy but from what I’ve seen of his character, organizational skills and work ethic I sure as heck hope he continues to evolve and can turn our fortunes around this season and I’m pulling for just that.
Yeah... what was UF doing hiring Sully, Rhonda Faehn, Mouse Holloway, Anthony Nesty, Jenny Rowland. Never get any SEC or natty out of that bunch. Not sure that a couple of years at Wichita really qualifies that Tim Walton guy either. We should require a coach already have a national title as a head coach, maybe have been a head coach in the pro's too. We'll call it the Carolyn Peck standard....will never lose again
Al Golden, coincidentally played TE as a player, started his coaching career as a Offensive Coordinator, then was a grad assistant at Virginia Prior to becoming Linebackers coach at Boston College having never coached or played the position. More recently was a coach on the lions as a TE coach and then the Linebackers coach the following season. It is possible for a football coach to be knowledgeable at multiple positions. Vinnie Sunseri played SAFETY throughout his playing career, nit proved to be efficient and knowledgeable enough that Belicheck felt good with making him their RB coach. Apparently showed enough coaching chops that Jedd Fisch felt good hiring him as his safeties coach.
Why does he have to be co-DC then? Wouldn’t Harris be more qualified to be Co-DC if we are just giving away a jobless title?
I’m talking about a Defensive coordinator hire man, why do you guys have to be so disingenuous? We just went through this with Armstrong after yall told me he was amazing and we stole him away from Saban. The way you guys speak you would think Billy won the SEC this year. Can’t disapprove of anything in this place without you and others getting on your soapbox about hires in other sports.
Nobody is talking about him coaching safeties. It is the Co-Dc part when we have had a bottom 4 defense 3 years running. It’s just questionable when we have the money for a sure thing. Yall go off about things I wasn’t talking about though love your thoughts.
I’m not sure what you are asking. I’m very clearly questioning giving a 33 year old a co-dc title that’s never been a DC. If we were Arkansas I wouldn’t be questioning it.
I’m saying there’s nothing wrong with that, nor is it wrong to question Napier. Nobody is above reproach.
You're putt8ng too much stick in the "CO-DC" title. Bama has 2 CO-DC's and they both are the 2 DB coaches. As I've posted before, if a position coach helps coordinate and is involved in game planning for the defense, they are by definition a Co- defensive Coordinator. The " Co" part implies they don't call the shots but rather "Assist" much like an assistant manager in business. It's pretty clear to me their role when I see a assistant manager at a store vs a General manager. Same goes for "Co-Dc" vs "DC". If you look close enough you'll see it's on a litany of rosters. Texas has 1 OC 1 Co-OC 1 Passing game Coordinator 1 DC 1 Co-DC 1 defensive pass game Coordinator Also: 1 HC 1 assistant HC 2 associate HC. Just too much emphasis of the "Title"
