By: Nick Marcinko -- January 22, 2025 Florida Gators guard Walter Clayton Jr. broke Florida’s program record for consecutive games with a three pointer on Wednesday night vs South Carolina. Trailing 46-35 at the 14-minute mark in the second half, Clayton Jr. buried his first three pointer of the game, extending his active streak to 42 games, passing Michael Frazier II’s record of 41, which was set in the 2014-15 season. From Nick's article: The senior has hit a three pointer in all of Florida’s 19 games this season. His last game without a triple came on December 30th, 2023 against Quinnipiac, where Clayton Jr. logged just one three-point attempt across 21 minutes in a blowout victory. That is the only game Clayton Jr. has failed to record a three pointer in a Gators’ uniform. Clayton Jr. has made a three pointer in 54 of his 55 games at Florida, establishing himself as one of the better shooters in program history. * * * * * Pretty amazing.
Two big milestones last night. Walter breaks the UF record for consecutive games with a 3, and Will Richard scores his 1000th point as a Gator... on the game-winning basket. Wow. Side note: I like the Gators against ANY team on a day when all three of our starting backcourt are converting at a high rate. We haven't had that for a number of games now, but we've shown we can beat MOST teams when they aren't.
And all 3 were today! Martin to start, Richard to build up the big lead, then Clayton to close it out.
