Well, a not unusual big fail by the meteorologists in Gainesville. It never even got down to freezing and we just had a rainy night.....maybe a little sleet mixed in that melted the second it hit the ground.
I got 9 inches a week ago and my yard is still covered mostly 'cause it's been so friggin cold. Lucky me has disk between L4 and L5 that keeps reminding me how that clean driveway and all of those mounds of snow surrounding my parked car got there.
Got a little over 6 inches at my house. Friends of mine in the north part of the county got over 10. My neighbor and her husband were outside. He's an F-35 pilot and transferred in from Alaska this past summer. The wife was taking pictures and she commented she thought they had left this s*** when they left Alaska.
Ive never understood why anyone would put up with this crap. Its fun for a minute but im over it in less than 24 hrs.
It's sort of funny that this storm came in 40 years to the day of what I believe is the coldest day in Gainesville for the past 40+ years. I was in my 2nd year at UF on January 21, 1985 when the temp dropped to 10 degrees and the high was only 29. It was the craziest thing ever.
Only because you were a smart 6 year old Wanne15. Some of us were geographically challenged. When I was 6, I built a sled in my garage following directions in some boys magazine. Then my father turned it into a shelf in said garage where people could hear the story and laugh at my folly for decades. (Go figure, building a sled doesn't make it snow in Ft. Lauderdale) I made my first snowman yesterday, and when my snowman army finally melts it will catastrophically decrease the population of Santa Rosa County. Rosebud baby. Rosebud.
I was on campus and remember it well. The wind didn't help either. It wasn't much but I definitely remember not enjoying my walk facing the wind while trying to dodge the random ice on the roads and sidewalks.
Got 8" here in Crestview. Fun for about 2 hrs or so! It is a delight to watch my 7 yr old Grandson flipping out over it though. Record low here is 8 degrees back in 1981. Tonight they are calling for the low to be 5 degrees! Already had a pipe bust on the farm north of Baker!! Can not stand much more of the cold!
I was young in 73 and thought it eould happen again but it did take quite a while. My buddy snowboarded down bayview park with his kid yesterday. Ive never been accused of being smart
To my Ranger School buddies - how fun would it have been to get 8 inches of snow in your patrol base...IN FLORIDA!
Also in The 'View. Got about 5 inches here close to the airport. I decided to go full monty: walked in the storm with the wife and dog, made snow angels (her first, she's a local girl). Next day: shoveled the driveway and walks, and made a snowman with a friend's grandson. Result: I'm whupped and my shoulders are sore. I don't remember it being like that when I was kid in Ohio.
