I still think of the local airport as Washington National since that was its name when I moved to Northern Virginia from Florida. I virtually never refer to it with the name of the 40th President even though Congress formally changed the name to Reagan National in 1998. I also recall that some Republican members of Congress threatened to withhold federal highway funds to MD, VA and DC is they didn't change their road signs by a date certain to reflect the new name of the airport although I'm not sure if they ever actually went through with their threat.
I agree that when others are referring to the U.S., they often say America. But technically, America refers to the continent (or pair of them) on which our country is located. No other country in North or South America has inserted America into their name, so we have taken it over by default.
Yeah, I know what you're saying. Ft. Bragg, Ft. Picket, Ft. Lee, Ft. Hood... Lee Circle, Monument Avenue... Guess it takes some getting used to. Gulf of America. Cozy on up...
we did an alaska cruise which included seeing Denali. I guess we're going to have to go again to see Mt. McKinley.
I still call BWI, BWI...and your airport just National. And still call that playoff team the Redskins.
I do. In fact, according to Trump, he has hundreds of executive actions to take, which he tells us will take the better part of his first 30 days in office. I don’t see why pissing off our next door neighbor was a Day 1 necessity? Do you?
I too still refer to the football team as the Redskins and by the way I think it's real karma that the team which never made it to the NFC Championship during the 24 years that Daniel Snyder owned the Redskins did so the first season after he was forced to sell the team.
Trump was trashed by a female Episcopalian bishop at a prayer service, who explained the need to respect immigrants and LGBTQ people. Trump was too ignorant for the speech to make an impression. The Episcopalian Church announced it was relieved that Trump did not assault the bishop. Trump attends prayer service, gets an earful on immigrants and LGBT youth
Securing the Mexican boarder was one of his main goals. So to answer your question, yes Mexico is right in his sights. Do you really think that Mexico cares about what we call the Gulf?
I don’t think anyone should be focusing on the name of a body of water that has been universally recognized by a name for centuries. I don’t think provoking your neighbor helps secure a border, IT CAUSES YOUR NEIGHBOR TO TURN TO OTHERS—LIKE YOUR ENEMIES, for support. Speaking only on my thoughts, I’d prefer he focus on issues rather than picking fights over inanity with our neighbor. Trump has the right idea, in my book, of targeting cartels, most of whom are within Mexican borders. I agree with Trump—they’re terrorist organizations. But, absent Mexican cooperation, we can’t invade a sovereign territory to attack them. Again, Day 1 action items, IMO, shouldn’t be focused on annoying your neighbor, they should be focused on attacking problems that need urgent repair and attention.
I don't really think that Mexico cares. I mean the Gulf of America does make more since because it is surrounded by North and Central America.
