so you’re going to give people from the U.S. prison system weeders, hoes, sickles and other sharp tools and make them pick crops against their will? That sounds like a bad idea on a number of levels lol.
Again, stop avoiding the question. If an immigrant is coming from a country like Guatemala, Honduras, Venezuela or Colombia, why are they all our responsibility? Why are these immigrants not going to countries like Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Brazil, Argentina and Chile? Asylum law actually requires that they apply for asylum in Mexico as they literally have to go through Mexico to get to the U.S. Asylum is not a "pick and choose thing". It's supposed to be limited to political and racial/ethnic persecution and you are supposed to apply for asylum in the first country you reach with a stable government.
I was enjoying the "unemployed" part too. Imagine these computer science grads out there trying to figure out how to use a tractor. I know I would be fired in 10 minutes on a farm.
Obviously you would use non-violent offenders. I'm not saying use people who are on death row or violent offenders who have killed people. Let them continue to pick up trash on the side of highways like they do now or serve at local food kitchens. Jobs that do not give them access to any sharp tools that could be turned into weapons.
Modern farming is a pretty complex operation and migrant farmers have generational experience. I’m not sure farmers want inexperienced white collar criminals in their fields. But hey maybe I’m wrong.
Codified by International Law per the 1951 UN Refugee Convention. Asylum is for those fleeing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. "My country being a sh*thole country" is not a valid reason for asylum.
Using the prison population doesn't work, I can tell you from experience. During COVID we had labor shortages and used prisoners that were in a pre release program, their sentence was due to be up in the next 6 months so they were allowed to work and be paid so they could have money when they got out of prison. They had no incentive to be productive, exactly the opposite, when they were done with work they went back to their cells. So no incentive at all. There were several with some skills that we did hire after they were paroled, but they were the exception, not the rule.
All this from a guy who spends hours sitting on his bum posting on message boards. Dude, without work visas for non-citizens and by disallowing asylum seekers to work here, the U.S. will not have enough labor to support many basic jobs. And companies may go under. Hey, why stop at unemployed persons or inmates? Make all seniors on SS and disabled, no matter how sick or feeble, fill migrant jobs. Ever laid sod for 8 hours in Florida? Done any physical labor, farming or construction? It ain't easy buster. But tell us how you think when you can't get your lawn mowed or your grocery prices skyrocket due to imported goods taking over. You're not offering real-life solutions. Just "concepts of a plan."
Yes, you are talking to someone who, when they were younger, would drive un-air conditioned delivery trucks in Florida for 14 - 16 hours a day. And that included loading and unloading those trucks. So yes I know physical labor. I still have some pain that were probably from that job. Maybe some of those Companies need to go under. Things are replenished through fire. Sometimes things need to burn to ash to truly be rebuilt. The U.S. is no different.
The UN does NOT require asylum to be declared in the first country the refugee reaches. But the UN does allow countries to deport asylum seekers to a country closer to their origin. But this can only happen after a hearing. Trump will also try and reinstate Remain in Mexico. Prepare for another court fight. Remain in Mexico was a pandemic only order. The El Paso crossing cannot remain closed. Hundred of US Citizen children cross daily to go to school in El Paso. Not allowing them passage is denying then their Constitutional right to an education. And regardless of what you feel about birthright citizenship, these kids are citizens. Remain in Mexico was an humanitarian nightmare during COVID, when immigrant numbers were down. It's only going to be v worse this time around.
Well it’s not “hard” to just close up shop, but it’s going to cripple local economies and create bottlenecks at the remaining operating ports of entry. That clown TX Governor tried a similar stunt, with “enhanced inspections” which slowed everything to a crawl at the TX border crossings (not even sure it was closed, just ridiculously slow). It ended after a few days. I’m sure mostly because GOP donor class was getting hurt by lost business. These people don’t give a crap about a few hundred kids being locked out of school. But the second it hurts their own business they’ll start hollering.
Are you so obtuse that you don't know that there is an agricultural season all year long? I mean, come on.
Clearly you're making stuff up as you post. No reasonable thoughts in your posts. You are shooting from the hip much akin to your donald god.
Are you saying Cali and Europe are better places to live today than they were in 1985, thanks to the benefits of importing diverse peoples who will vote for liberals? If Democrats and RINO's want to import produce pickers and construction workers why do they insist on making them citizens and giving them massive gov't benefits?
Oh wow, you must be new here or haven't been here in a while. I mean, you actually tried to engage intellectually with one of "them". Based on the typically unhinged stupidity of the reply, I'm guessing you won't be making that mistake again. . . Or, perhaps you're a glutton for punishment. Stick to the 8th-grade insult contest. It's all they understand.
