I have not wept at the passing of any President of the United States before now. I wasn't old enough to remember the assassination of John F. Kennedy. And now, here I am, moved to tears at the loss of a man I did not vote for, knowing that a great light has gone out in the world. God bless you, Mr. President.

Please treat this thread with the dignity and respect it deserves. If you can't say anything positive about the long life and dedicated service of this good and decent man, please start another thread.

I think his was the kind of life that inspired others to be of service to humankind.

Voting for him was the first vote i ever cast.

He did give his time to make homes for those in need. That was a noble cause.

When Harry Truman passed away on December 26, 1972 President Richard Nixon declared a 30-day period of national mourning in which flags would fly at half-staff. The period included Nixon's second inauguration on January 20, 1973 but then Nixon despite his flaws wasn't afflicted with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, the real Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Proclamation 4176—Announcing the Death of Harry S Truman | The American Presidency Project
Now, Therefore, I, Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States of America in tribute to the memory of President Truman, and as an expression of public sorrow, do hereby direct that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff at the White House and on all buildings, grounds, and Naval vessels of the United States for a period of thirty days from the day of his death. I also direct that for the same length of time the representatives of the United States in foreign countries shall make similar arrangements for the display of the flag at half-staff over their Embassies, Legations, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and stations.
