No, I don’t have a problem with it. I do have a problem with being crass about it with an ally or, more importantly, not taking military action off the table.

Greenland is considered a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Denmark is still responsible for its foreign policy. Greenland does have the option for full independence if a majority of its citizens vote for independence through a referendum which could apparently take place this April. Just a guess but if Greenland does declare full independence from Denmark I don't think they would want to become a dependency of the US.

Additionally, Denmark funds about 50% of the public revenue of Greenland and its nearly 60K residents.

That seems right, they are right now considering becoming a sovereign nation untethered to Denmark.

True but the vast majority of the country said they do not want independence if it means a fall in standards. Since the Danish government provides half their funding I’m not sure how independence works for them.

That is yet to be determined. Right now, the leaders of Greenland are listening to what the U.S. is offering. There are several hurdles... and nothing is set in stone, but It's a good start. Just getting an official meeting is a good start.

Donald Trump is a master negotiator. He asks for way more than he wants, creates a ton of smoke, brings the parties to the table and gets what he really wanted all along.

Any of these Gator Country negotiators that comment on here have no idea the game he is playing. If Trump decided to negotiate with any of them he would turn them inside out before they knew what was happening.

Just wait. He will get something from them one way or another.

You people that think that this guy is an idiot crack me up.

Dude already turned you inside out twice and you are still trying to figure out what happened.

He has beaten your weak game already.

    LOL

It would have been fun if Trump had announced his first EO would be the Greenland Permanent Danish Territory EO. Then we'd see threads from the cult about what a great idea that was.

I gotta give you credit Jo. If you are anything, you are consistent.

Edit: Moderator, In all do fairness, I only meant to insult the writer. My apologies to the keyboard. :D:D

because djt would promise 60% for a better way of life and he would tell maga that the danes are going to pay for it.

big tariffs on Ozempic to pay for greenland. danes are going to pay us to take it..yeah, that's it..if they don't we are going to make meidcare and medicaid negotiate prices for Ozempic but if they do, we will keep overpaying

We also know you would have a problem with it and find some kind of way to complain about it. You'd probably complain Trump supports colonialism or something like that.

    maybe the Danes

    maybe the residents

maybe the taxpayers having to deficit fund greenland and run to their aid every time there is a natural disaster?

maybe the EU or Britain who are no longer certain that the USA will always be on the same page after watching the voters pick someone like the high master not once but twice

you know, the same ones that complain about PR being such a welfare state..

The military industry would certainly be in favor of it since the Pentagon doesn't spend enough already. To me this feels like a George Bush move in search of more oil
