Absolutely, and that tells you something about why Spurrier was so resistant to going to the shotgun earlier. So much of his O was based on timing, and play action.

Disagree. No one could call Spurrier's plays except Spurrier. Even his son couldn't do it. It's not just the playbook. It's the eyes, ears and brain who observes the field and makes the right call at the right time in real time, and only SOS could do that. Danny Wuerffel was perhaps the only other one who could capture SOS's intent with audibles. Grossman's gunslinger attitude was either a laser show or the chuck and duck. Can't blame Zaun for those 4-INT games in 2001 and 2002. "Good Rex" and "Bad Rex" carried on in his NFL career.

could sit back tgere and sl
thats where i think scheme and play calling diverge. Spurrier could call napiers offense and be bery succesful is how i see it.

True, although Spurrier's USCe teams were overwhelmingly defense dominant. He made his offense efficient rather than sxplosive.

Obviously he’s not Spurrier. But not trying to get a close look at a genius’s work is the work of a fool. Not implementing passing concepts your present QB excelled at is malpractice.

Rex's bad games were due to Rex's, not Zaunbrecher. Leak had a better year as a true freshman in 2003 than Rex's had in 2002. No matter how flashy he was, those 4-INT games won't go away or be palmed off on Zaunbrecher.
