I just finished The Undeclared War, which is on Peacock. It’s set in 2024 and surrounds British concerns of Russian cyber attacks on their upcoming election. They talk a lot about coding which goes completely over my head (not like the Fortran programs I wrote at UF). If the kind of hacking and taking control of systems discussed in the series can really happen, that is pretty darn scary.
Ok, maybe its time to revive this thread as its the time of year for "award" movies. Saw Complete Unknown and Nosferatu over the holidays I couldnt believe how well Complete Unknown nailed the music and made a music biopic that didn't suck. Chalamet was great as was Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez. If you like Eggers' other films, you will definitely like Nosferatu.
My wife dragged me to 'the best Christmas pageant ever' and I really liked it. "Red One" was hilarious. Looking forward to many great movies in 2025. My wife and I make sure to have a 'date night' once a week. I recommend it for any couple. Makes you feel young again. Sneaking in mini bottles reminds me of Gainesville LOL
We saw Complete Unknown and it was really good. A little disappointed that it wasn't very far into his career but that made sense when the credits say it was based on the book "Dylan Goes Electric". It follows the formula of Walk the Line and Ray which were also really good movies. When they were in the studio and Al Cooper is looking for an instrument to play and he goes over and hits the opening notes on the organ for Like a Rolling Stone I got chills.
I think this movie leaned more into just music than some of the other films you mentioned. I liked that they didnt try to do too much with it, and kinda focused more on the music and him writing songs. They avoided some of the cliches of these type of movies.
Seen nothing really good since Wicked. Most of the ones mentioned above are entertaining just not special. Seeing Nosferatu tonight.
Conclave was good. Conclave Conclave (2024) ⭐ 7.4 | Drama, Mystery, Thriller Also thought these were decent and worth a watch: Subservience Subservience (2024) ⭐ 5.4 | Sci-Fi, Thriller Oddity Oddity (2024) ⭐ 6.7 | Horror, Thriller
Anyone catch the SNL movie? I enjoyed it, but I’d probably only recommend it to fans who are familiar with the show’s first year and cast. Just a heads-up: the movie portrays the 90+ minutes leading up to the first show in real-time. JK Simmons has a brief role as Milton Berle, depicted as a behind-the-scenes HA. Simmons is fantastic, as always. IMO the actor who plays belushi was a miss.
Have you ever seen any another movie that was as dark, literally, as Nosferatu? As in no lighting throughout the movie.
Yep. Add me to those who loved Carry On. Pretty intense moments in that one. Jason Bateman nailed his role
I distinctly remember my dvd copy of the Road being insanely dark trying to watch it on my TV. Could just be the transfer. I have no idea if the theatrical release was like that. That’s one I remember off hand.
I can't seem to hear dialogue well anymore. I don't know if because I'm getting older (52) or if the audio engineers are mixing sound spatialization from the center channel to the surround sound channels.
Maybe a little of both but I have noticed that there are a lot of movies where the actors whisper for effect. It's very annoying.
