I think this season will be a success if... We hold serve at home and steal a few wins on the road A first round bye in the SECT and win at least 2 games A S16/E8 in the NCAAT We have a deep team that can accomplish this if... Aberdeen steps up a little bit at PG (this is trending) Condon, Chinyelu and Alexis step up their games down low Lower TOs Score more than the other team... What are yall's expections for the BB team this season?
I'm not one to call "failure" if we don't achieve what we're capable of. We're capable of all that you list, and more. But bad games and upsets happen. To reach our max, I do agree that Condo, Chins, and Alexis need to convert at a higher rate in the lane. Condo, certainly, is capable of more scoring down low.
It's too early to set firm expectations for me. Fun to think about though. Mostly . . . thank you for volunteering to be our escaped goat for this year, if needed. LOL!
I'll be happy if the team continues to be highly entertaining (as they were last year) and has a better ncaa result.
- Don’t drop out of top 25 - Sweet 16 Those two would make me very happy. Anything beyond that I’ll be thrilled. Given if we go 3-0 to start SEC play my expectations will change drastically!
Going undefeated this season! Just kidding but it’s still possible. The OP’s list is ambitious but would be fabulous to achieve. I think the team goals might be: Win the conference Make the tourney It’s gravy after that it’s well known teams with real lofty goals often never achieve them; think UT in football, UK in basketball.
Finish in the top half of the conference which should put us in the dance. After that…..anything can happen.
My hope is that we are in the top 3 in the SEC at the end of the season. Not that we I will be disappointed if we don't, just that this team has really good qualities. And yes, we need to be a Sweet 16 team. After that, who the heck knows.
This team has exceeded my expectations so far this season. I'm just going to keep those expectations low and enjoy the ride.
Maintain the intensity and teamwork. The rest will follow. Bad games will happen, but this team is just so fun to watch when they play with their hair on fire.
Elite 8 all day. ALEXIS will be a big reason, but Clayton and Martin, Richard as good a back court as you will find.
Not sure I would ever predict an unbeaten season at home, and I know I would never pin success on a second weekend in the tourney (thought that's obviously the goal). So many things can happen by then, plus I don't think an early exit detracts from a terrific regular season. That said, I would consider this a successful season were it to include top 4 finish in the SEC and a regional 4 seed in the tournament. Finishing that high in the league would likely require a 11-12 win season, which is nothing to sneeze at in this year's SEC, and would almost certainly make us a #4.
I would also add (as I think I wrote in another thread) that we definitely have the team to accomplish that on league play: deep post rotation, multiple experienced guards, excellent rebounding across the lineup, balanced scoring inside and out, efficient at either end of the court, and good free throw shooters to close out games. That sort of team may not blow everyone out, but they can play with anyone and will be hard to upset or blow out. The biggest challenge is the variance between our home and road schedules. Not sure I see us better than 4-5 on the road, so we need go 7-2 at home.
