I am one who thinks an 8 team playoff with no bye's is the right number, but since it is all about the moolah, I cannot see them retracting. I doubt they stick with 12. I could see them going to 16 with no bye's, just for the sheer TV factor. I am not a fan of how it is still basically an invitational.
Six teams. Only the top six conference champions. No “at-large” teams. No “special” teams who don’t think they need to be in a conference. Top two teams get a bye. The playoff committee only determines who the top six conference champions are and what the seeding one through six is.
The SEC and Big (Whatever) caved to let these don't-belong conference champions in with byes. The byes have to go. Seeding has to be fair and not designed to accomplish a clear purpose. You're right, probably will go to 16 before coming down to just 8. Edit: Yes, I forgot about oh-so-special Notre Dame. Join a conference or don't play for a championship.
I’d rather have a team in there I would be confident could beat Georgia, even with a backup QB. I feel no such confidence with Notre Dame. I think it falls to Oregon to knock Georgia out, but I’ll certainly take a Notre Dame win tonight.
All sports are about the money. Thats what makes it all possible . Clearly eight would be good enough almost every year to crown a champion. Im for 16 though. If there are 9, there needs to be 16. Byes are crap as no-one can actually earn it on the field. 16 spots makes the regular season interesting for many more teams. With four, almost every team was eliminated halfway through the season. Smaller schools arent affected because they never had a chance anyway. I like the idea of having a couple losses and the season isnt over in October. We were a different team at the end of the year, still not good enough but better. Once in a while, a lower seed will make a run at it and it will be great for college football. At least all playoff games are watched and the players dont sit out. For those that dont think Boise /Penn st is a good game, we play sanford for god sake and some are ok with that. I think its the best college football can offer, tge best 16 teams.
I hate em all so i get no joy for Notre dame either. I want emm all to lose, especially ones we will have to go through to win it all. Go asu
I think it’ll be Ohio St left standing. They certainly looked the part … and no Michigan in their bracket.
Ohio State might be the best team in it. Penn State doesn’t look too bad either. And then there’s the Horns - are they gonna lose 3 to UGa? Could ASU light them up? Lots of possibilities
I think the tv stations with the contracts to televise the conferences had something to say about guaranteeing four conferences a seed. I wonder if its in the contracts for them to get one seeds is written in also. I have no problem with boise , and asu getting in but they should be seeded by their ranking.
I'm all for that. 16 teams, 8 On-Campus games. Problem for those thinking about the moolah is squeezing the first round in alongside of NFL games. As you can see, they will want to televise every one as a stand-alone game and that's going to be tough to do without dedicating at least 2 and probably 3 days to it. For me, the on-campus games are the real appeal to this (outside of the obvious). Would much rather see these games on campus as well instead of boring bowl-game venues.
And, at best, hosting a game in the first round. Not getting a bye into the second round. I think a lot of us were thinking the same thing when we saw the bracket with ASU and Boise St getting byes: "Lame".
I'm enjoying the games and like it at 12. The rankings that decide the game need to improve. I'm with Saban on this one. More college games make me happy.
I like it too but no need for byes. Nobody earned one and damn sure not those other two. Get 16 and we get four more games to watch. Seed them correctly and we arent watching the lesser teams play right now.
