Two rules to live by: 1) Don't make promises you can't keep. 2) Get it in writing. And parting thoughts, a la Jerry Springer: this NIL stuff sucks.
I have a feeling a lot of these college kids are gonna learn with this NIL stuff what a lot of kids end up learning at the recruiting office. "Yeah kid undesignated seaman (actual job: does all the work no one else wants to do) is exactly like being a navy SEAL and with the signing bonus you can definitely buy that new Mustang"
All correct. This NIL stuff was so poorly documented, if documented at all, that who knows? The schools were not supposed to be involved at all, but they were.
This may be the excuse F$U was waiting for to can Hammy. His contract probably has a clause allowing him to be fired for wrongful behavior without a huge buyout.
Holes don’t wanna get rid of him. They love geriatric coaches who stay past their expiration date thinking they will win a NC.
I feel bad for him. He's a college coach trying to navigate this NIL landscape and none of it's easy and all of it's new...that's why a number of top end guys have just said, screw it, it's not worth it. Hamilton will, too. He's had that job for 25 years, and while he's not the best coach in the world, he was pretty competent for a long time. Now he's completely out of his element.
I get how maddening and distasteful the NIL environment must be to coaches, but I also have no problem believing that Hamilton threw up his hands and decided he could live with deliberately stringing these kids along with financial assurances he sensed almost certainly would never be delivered (or that Billy Napier did the same with Rashada). Note from the article that Leonard was clever enough never to give a definitive response in his texts with players. Kept everything verbal and therefore subject to interpretation.
Guy makes $2.5M/year and has been a head coach forever. This has been a multimillion dollar gravy train for him for a long time. Not even close to a guy I “feel bad for.”
The only difference between NIL and nill is a "l". What does it matter having another "l' in Tallahassee? Just ask Norvelllllllllll.
