Exactly this, in Big 10 country all I've heard for a week is the SEC is overrated because UTk got stomped.
UF was destroyed in that game, 300+ rushing for aTm. 20-0 @ half complete with audible fire Napier chants and booed off the field. They missed 3 makeable FG's, could have easily been 42-20. We pretty much had nowhere to go but up. Even with the butt target, they had 13 penalties for 110, to our 7 for 65, so that is a bunk excuse too.
With them coming after our players and coaches it has morphed into a bit of a rivalry, especially since we play them more often than some of our former rivals thanks to that even-steven SEC scheduling coming out of Birmingham!
I still maintain the biggest issue was personnel choices. Like the article says, Spierto got 30+ snaps.
Yeah, that too. I mean, the right tackle killed Mertz in the Miami game. He had no business even being on the field. No names, please. You know who it was.
I think our love affair with SEC dominance, at least at the level we’ve seen for 20 years- may be coming to an end. The portal and NIL have created some parity, teams can get good really fast (Indy) and bad really fast (FSU)… the playoffs means we probably won’t see dynasties in the same way and 8-4 is a really good season. And I was incensed that freakin Boise and SMOOO got in over Scar and Ole Miss or bama … clearly they are better teams- but I think it’s fun to see different teams in the mix so I’m here for the changes
I hate the "new CFB" but the one redeeming quality in my mind is it might break the mutts' and gumps' monopoly. Hopefully.
Thankfully I never said anything about rooting against the SEC as a whole, not sure why you're bringing that up to me, unless it's a general hit at everyone you're upset with. I said it was nice to see others struggle at the end of the season when the last few years it's been us. I even said in my post that I was happy with seeing the likes of Arky and Vandy win. It expands the depth of the conference even when a couple up top lose. With UF rebuilding and finally looking to take the next step, it makes us look even better and that's what we, UF, need at this moment for recruiting and momentum. Even with that all being said, pretty nonsensical believing you rooting for the conference as a whole from your living room couch is actually going to change the outcomes of games. You do you boo.
Lol. I want ALL SEC teams to lose since the leaders have added another 8 or 10 teams. Don't care at all about the conference being the strongest or whatever. That ship has sailed for me. We have to recruit against the other SEC teams, some we may never play against ever again. Not that it matters but I want all SEC teams to lose unless they are playing the Noles.
I understand your feelings and certainly respect that. I guess I’m just too old and entrenched in my loyalties to change…much. I grew up listening to Gator football in the early 50’s and we hated that the SEC played second fiddle to northern and west coast teams in national media. I’m not sure what you mean by “since the leaders have added another 8-10 teams”.

Well not in basketball. I’ve seen several basketball analysts say that this years SEC (because we were dumb enough to allow A&M, Mizzou etc) is the best hoops conference in history ! And we are 13-0 with a bunch of momentum and solid depth
There may be a slight shake-up at the top, but its still going to be about who buys the best players. Alabama, Georgia, OSU and 2 or 3 others were that group for the last 10-15 years. 2 of those teams listed still remain in the playoffs. If they find a way to continue to purchase the most talent, they will continue to be the dominant teams. Every now and then a team will find a transcendental QB that allows them to pop up into the top few, but unless they consistently spend like the big dogs, they will pop back down just as soon as that QB moves on (if they have to move on at all given all the "new" eligibility rules).
Boom. I almost started a thread on this. I’m not rooting for the sec or other sec teams- they don’t root for us. Everybody in the SEC hates Florida. That’s the one thing they all have in common. So why am I going to root for them? if I’m honest- I never really did although I thought it was funny that other cons were so mad the past 15 years. But honestly, I root for Florida and then I’ll root for teams that would help Florida in some shape or fashion… And then I just root for good college football games… I’m a college football junkie… i’ll watch Georgia Tech Air Force on a Thursday night if it’s a good game… And if that means 12 different teams from 12 different conferences are in the playoffs… I don’t care, I just want the best college football games… Now, the past 15 to 20 years that meant the SEC was going to give you the best games… I’m not sure that’s where we are at anymore… Notre Dame is actually a really good football team… They were in embarrassment when they showed up against Alabama in the national title game but I think Notre Dame is a marker for where we are… They could not have a had a team that competed in the SEC 15 years ago… But they could now… Now, would they win the SEC? They play in this heat? In front of all these fans and weak out on a grind? I don’t know? Maybe? They travel well… They beat Texas A&M… They beat Georgia… But I think it’s interesting that the portal and NL and conference realignment have created quite a bit of parody and teams get good that couldn’t before and I love that and if that means Indiana is a pretty good freaking football team that’s great conference because I would love it if the Big Ten was good and that gave me more viewing options because the big 10 has been the worst kind of football over the last 20 years
Aww who cares really. SEC respect was a big thing back ~30 years ago. We buried that monkey underneath so many national championships that it’ll never be heard from seriously again. People from other conferences will opportunistically make noise from time, but that’s all it’ll ever amount to.
