Didn't want the pressure of a job like Florida, then he left UCLA because he didn't want to be a head coach anymore, give him a few years and he'll be a GA again
The most concise breakdown on why we need an OC.. Plays, predictable tendencies, etc. It's a great listen!!
Players got to execute and one of our favorite gators had a really bad game against against miami but watching every team Miami played feast on offense has been frustrating to watch given our performance. I'll leave it at that
We looked completely unprepared and that can't happen the first game next year, much less half a season. I doubt Napier would survive that tightrope again.
ok dude. I’m not saying it was BAD we won. I’m obviously over the moon. What I’m saying is- IF he has a blind spot or stubbornness (which he has not when it comes to ANY other coordinator as he’s parted ways better than previous coaches) then this is the ammo to feed that monster. We all have blind spots. I for one, often argue with total jerks on the internet who are clearly obtuse… but I do it anyway… He may have one. Lots of CEO’s, really good people… have a blind spot. He is NOT a good play caller. We could be better on offense. Those are objective facts with statistics dating back 10+ years to back it up. Now, he may have other reasons to keep himself. But we are not as good as we could be with him calling plays. All I’m saying is- with the talent we have it would be a travesty to score 26 a game… and we could end up in that space where we win 7-8 a year and are just good enough to not let him go
He’s probably not as bad a play caller as many here would have you believe. When a play doesn’t work it’s easy to blame it on a bad play call. Sometimes that’s not why it didn’t work. As stated elsewhere in this thread, Billy needs to quit calling the ‘freshman QB throws to the other team’ play. I’d love to see Billy tap a great OC to run the offense, but that in itself isn’t what’s keeping us from winning a championship. Next season should be better than this one - which exceeded most of our expectations. Still a lot of improving to do. I’m enjoying the ride up. Go Gators
My concern is that we again see no improvement in scoring offense next year despite the offensive weapons. If you look at the numbers our scoring offense has been in the lower half of football each of Napier's 3 years here. I posted scoring by quarter in a prior post. We regressed in first quarter scoring considerably this year with multiple 0 score 1st quarters in particular. The pic here is to show how abysmal our offense was for 8 straight years until Mullen came and drastically improved the offense in one year even with a limited QB. Are we expecting different results next year or just being optimistic Gator fans? Coaches track records don't often change dramatically after pattern results have been established. We went from 104th scoring offense in 2017 to 37th under Mullen in 2018. Sometimes you just gotta be able to coach them up.
I agree with this. But change, especially dramatic change, results first in a transient response, which eventually gives way to a steady state response. Multiple factors determine how quickly that transition happens. In our case, with 10+ years of total instability, followed by the roster disaster left by DM, topped off by NIL and a free-for-all of portal transfers, I don’t think there’s been enough time for a pattern, or steady state response, to be established. Our ‘system’ is still evolving. Next season should be very revealing - and I don’t think big changes right now would necessarily lead to the result we are pursuing
I'm not sure I follow. Mullen followed 8 years of offensive futility with a roster not built for a spread since Meyer left. Drastic improvement was simply a result of a great offensive coordinator. Now I agree that Mullen left a dearth of talent for Napier to work with. Our WR corp, tight end and Oline was pathetic for the university of Florida when Napier got here and I give Napier a lot more credit than some for rebuilding the roster. He's done a great job getting talent. Enough so that we should have seen much better results this year. I guess we will see this year with a more experienced lagway running the show. I think maybe Mertz, as much as we loved his contributions and leadership in 2023 managing the offense, was a bit of a liability at times in 2024 due to his high floor low ceiling. I think we had the skill position talent and offensive line play in 2024 to perform much better than we did. Maybe QB has been the linchpin. In summary, Napier has all the tools to put up more points in 2025 without excuses. Can't imagine a good explanation if we don't.
The thing is, what is Napier's offensive scheme? Is it rpo or pocket passing, a little of this a little of that, or is his scheme just analytics? You go back to his Ragin Cajun days his offenses weren't spectacular, just solid, if a bit boring.
