Everyone ahead of him in career rushing yards is in the HOF except for Gore and Peterson (and that's only because they aren't eligible yet). And Taylor did it while playing for the Jaguars during some up and down years.
As far as I’m concerned Fred Taylor, Wilbur Marshall, Wes Chandler, and Lomas Brown should all be in. Maurkice Pouncey will get in when he becomes eligible as well.
If you go back and watch our win over the Holes in '97 at home, Taylor had a rough first half. Fumbled twice, one a scoop six. But Spurrier never lost confidence in him, and Fred torched the Holes in the second half. Our kicking game/special teams were abysmal in that game. Our kicking failures kept the game close. The failures of Spurrier's special teams in that game were far worse than anything we have seen lately. When I read on this board about all of the UF myths of our past, I wonder if any of these posters ever saw what actually happened. I'm a huge Spurrier fan, but people need to get real in their criticisms of our current staff. But Fred is HOF for sure.
I love Fred as much as anyone and am a Jaguars fan; just saying it’s not a shoe-in he gets in. It took Boselli many tries to get in. It’s harder if you don’t play as long, it seems.
Only once, if I recall. I believe it’s by a vote and not pure statistics, which might explain the issue. I’m thinking playing for a small market team like Jax might hurt a candidate as well. I’m no expert with anything NFL. I’ll ask my son in law, who works for the Saints.
Son in law said it’s a consortium of people who vote: Media personnel from the NFL respective cities Other folks with some sort of credentials He looked at Fred’s stats and didn’t think he had enough relative to other RB’s to get in. (but he’s a Ga fan) But, you just never know, let’s hope for the best for Fred, his family, and fans!
Stats show that every back with more yards than him are in the HOF except for 2 that will go in when they are eligible... And he did it with the Jags. Also note the Jags only have one player in the HOF so there might be a little bit of bias against them, or he had all those yards with mediocre talent around him.
