Ya I like watching games too. I just don’t get gator fans obsession with living vicariously through the success of our rivals. Tennessee does the same thing. When teams like Georgia, bama, Tenn, lsu have great years they end up just sniping players from Florida and we stay mediocre
It’s a football forum. We’re both allowed to have opinions. I’m not insulting your intelligence or mental capacity
It doesn't matter either way. Tennessee, Georgia, Bama, Ole Miss, LSU, South Carolina and the Texas teams winning and finishing better than us hurts us locally. When we are as good or better, it helps us more. OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Clemson take from this state and they usually lose to SEC teams on average anyway. Your post is pretty moot, so I'm allowed to root for or against whomever.
The ones winning consistently are recruiting and developing. Gotta backfill from the portal but need to build on solid ground.
Dude, it has nothing to do with that. It directly benefits us if the SEC is winning. Just like we hate FSU and Miami until there’s a debate about the state of Florida football vs the state of Georgia football. Or if it’s US soccer vs Mexico. Pull the camera back a bit. We are all competing for the same athletes. Them losing hurt more than them winning because they are in our conference. What you are rooting for is a B1G takeover and that’s not good for UF nor the SEC.
Looking at the 2024 rosters A&M had 8 from Fla and USCw had 1 from Fla. For me based on that alone I would root for SC. However, during a game I never know who I’ll eventually want to win, it just depends on ingame performance and attitude. Unless it’s from a group I always dislike like Notre Dame, OSU, Mich etc. those I always despise!
I “despise” Alabama, Georgia, halfassu, LSU, scUM and Tennessee a whole lot more than those schools you listed. But different strokes for different folks.
Need more than that. Need an innovative O and good playcaller now too to win championships. And of course a great D. But I saw signs from the D the last 4 games that were encouraging. Hopefully not just a blip. O will continue to not be championship level even with great developed talent unless it is changed.
Sometimes I watch a game and think I’m indifferent only to discover I do have a favorite as the game progresses. There are some teams I would prefer to lose. Not just rivals either. BYU versus Colorado was one of those games yesterday. No skin in game but apparently did not want Colorado to win.
My friend's son is an analyst for A&M. He was planning a trip to see his son and the bowl game. His son told him not to bother. He goes to all the home games and a couple of the away games so it's nothing for him to attend games. I took it to mean that it's just an exhibition game and it's not worth the trouble. TLDR: I don't infer any meaning from non- playoff bowl hames games.
I understand what you’re saying. I think the sec being elite helps the teams that are on the bubble of making the playoffs and gets the bid over an inferior conference. However we haven’t been in this position. The SEC is the only conference in major sports that roots for their rivals Yankees don’t root for the Red Sox so that the AL East seems good. I’m sure Ohio state isn’t rooting for Michigan and I’m sure FSU doesn’t root for Miami or Clemson to win. I will never root for Georgia, Tennessee, or our other sec rivals to win unless a specific win directly leads to us benefitting.
Rooting for the sec doesn’t make them win, just like rooting against them doesn’t make them lose. The sec will be strong no matter who any of us root for. I root for chaos. Screw anyone who isn’t us.
If my aunt had nads, she'd be my uncle. This happens with many other teams as well, but we rarely say, "Well, they were really hurt when we played them. Good thing we didn't play them later in the year." They all count.
I think it has to do with geography. Those of us outside of SEC geography these days. (ACC country for me),hear about it every time an SEC team loses to an ACC team. (Basketball season has been great bte ).
Ahhh, grasshopper, let me enlighten you: Volsheimers (noun) 1 :A condition particularly noted among aficionados of the shade of creamsicle orange that causes them to suddenly believe they could reverse the 49-0 early season beating at the hands of UF and/or Bama because of their recent late-season winning streak against Miss St, Memphis, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt if only they had played them later in the year. 2 :An annually recurring condition among certain puke orange loving Tennessee men that prefer extremely hairy women (half bear, half cat), that induces a specific type of forgetfulness causing the sufferers to not be able to recall how awful their team was the prior year and proclaim to each other and everyone else how badly they will whup up on their rivals this next season.
Ya I get it. But if someone talks crap to a gator fan about Tennessee or Georgia losing I would hope they wouldn’t care.
I want the sec to dominate and take pride in playing in by far the best conference. You cant really argue with national championships and the draft. I want the conference to be the best and them lose every game at the same time. I dont want anyone to win besides the gators. Seeing colorado and Tennessee humiliated is great. Miami losing is great too.
