That post aged well! Referring to the first part about his recruiting. We already have one of the top WR rooms and reportedly, we're not done yet!
An OC hire would give Billy more time to be HC, and, so, hiring an OC is in his best interest! With that said, he's a "good playcaller," according to Shane Matthews and Steve Spurrier; and I value their opinions over my own!
I agreed with you but perhaps you aren't aware that gatorstrackman posted this on Dec 7th which was before Wilson flipped. It was, however, still premature and well...perhaps one should be cautious using hyperboles like "never" because 2 weeks later things began to look entirely different!
His quote was “continue to fail” …not sure what his bar is but talent wise our WR room is easily top 10 in the country.
The wrong OC makes it worse, the right one better. Billy is betting our improvement continues with the status guo.
Look at the offensive numbers. They have not been good. I've said the terrible defense could definitely play a part in the offensive statistics however just pointing out that the offense has been awful in the 1st and 3rd quarters in particular and there has been no trend of improvement in those numbers. I don't think he's a "bad" playcaller myself but he has several situational headscratchers and I think the biggest positive would be his focus to organize the rest of the team if he did get an OC.
Actually, I tend to believe it's something he is entertaining. If he makes the hire, I would like to see an outside guy whose philosophy compliments but adds to it, if that's possible. An internal hire would not mean much to the team.
I think we are all aware. I am open to the idea of an OC, not that my opinion counts for #%*@. However, this one point has been hammered daily since the first game of CBN’s career. We have all seen missteps and coaching replacements every year. The concept is valid, even with our recent improvements. But..just a thought…. Please RESIST the tendency to make some announcement at a late date ..on a subject we have already performed 1000 autopsies, and are in full agreement upon… As if we just discovered missing facts that Bobby Bowden would overlook homicide to justify keeping a starter active. We know it..already. and Moses already gave us the Ten Commandments on two tablets. Actually, TWICE. wait..just in..Tim Tebow is going pro.
I hate to say it but if he has a blind spot /stubborness about his play calling - winning those last 4 was not good- he has ammo and that may be the thing that keeps us in dangerous Jimbo/Jeff Fisher type middling territory
I fail to understand the point of your response. Was this directed at me, because I'm not following, what announcement?
Not specific…to you. Your post was one of the most polite I have read. I agreed with your spirit. Excellent. Just a good natured dig at others who are still frothing at the mouth over the necessity of a possible OC. Necessary or not is not my point. I, and maybe only me, could not care less. This has been a topic that has been explored ad nauseum, to me, and I am still surprised our last few wins did not dampen this hot issue at all. For the last three years…For some. Jmo. and truth be told, my 20 years on GC, almost exclusively on the INSIDER forum, seeing the best and brightest over there arguing the exact same points ( extremely aggressively I must say)and insulting the intelligence of anyone who disagrees with their hyperbolic stances embracing anything negative about the current administration for the last 12 years….. has given me PTGS. That is my alleged excuse. Lol Post traumatic Gator syndrome. Keep smiling.
Actually, I think SOS is not one to mince his words. Shane has said numerous times that he thinks BN is a good playcaller. I think both would say he has done some bone-headed stuff, such as clock management, personnel goofs, etc.
