Those are pretty shitty since it sounds like those 2 deserve every second they were sentenced to and more. Hell an argument can be made public corruption on that level deserves the death penalty. Worse than a “crime of passion” homicide, actions like theirs over a longer period of time indicate a certain degree of sociopathy.

The clemency/pardon power is best used when the sentence is too harsh or doesn’t fit the crime (which has been the justification for a lot of low level drug offenders, both Obama and Biden paid a lot of attention to these with their pardons… and I think that’s mostly a good thing).

Those two got off particularly light since COVID rules already had them out of prison and instead on “house arrest”. Just another example of white collar criminals being treated differently and with kid gloves regardless of the harm they cause. Nothing new there.

Definitely. That Conahan guy is reprehensible, and deserves more time in jail (not House arrest), rather than less.

But then again, we just saw a corrupt judiciary conspire to protect a criminal from so much as seeing a fair trial for legitimate indictments. (See Clarence Thomas "creating precedent" for Aileen Cannon to cite, in her slow walking the case, and their obviously political quest to keep Trump from going to trial.)

So these pardons may have been misguided. But we're in a brand new era now : the judiciary on all levels exists not to enforce the law, but to enforce political ends. Like it or not.

And Trump supporters have the least right to complain.

Merely using the power? Of course that alone doesn’t make a President corrupt. Pardoning/commuting drug convictions or death sentences is an act of mercy. Whether one agrees with the commutation, it’s in no way corrupt and the fully within the intent of the pardon power granted in the constitution.

But some pardons are more corrupt than others. I think it’s a power that definitely needs some serious guardrails. Definitely don’t want Presidents “selling” pardons, or pardoning people who commit crimes on their behalf. Pardons granted under those circumstances are examples of corruption.

 

The insanity of Biden’s “lame-duck clemency free-for-all” is truly sad ….. and indicative of both his mental incompetence and …. the abhorrent nature of the leftie, democrat.

 

But Biden alone will have to live with the label of being the worst POTUS ever....and I couldn't believe anyone in two centuries could exceed Jimmy Carter.
