You see the impact trolls like Okeechobee Joe have? We spend all of our time talking about him. That's what they want. Because I forgot to say how much I respect the job Napier has done. Kids are making grades, we aren't reading about them in the papers, and they play hard for the team. That's hard to accomplish. Kudos to Napier for building the kind of culture we can be proud of.
When the mods stopped moderating I started using the ignore feature. But I still have to watch a lot of people arguing with, and about, trolls. If you don't have the self discipline to ignore trolls then please the ignore feature.
In general, I think the "ignore" option is kind of dumb. If someone is posting stupid stuff, I rather enjoy telling them so. But...in the case of Okeechobee Joe, since the mods won't shut him down, maybe we should all revolt and put him on ignore. Perhaps then he would go away. But how would we know?
I like having players that are academic athletes. I’m not saying be a Harvard but it shows other signs of discipline for off the field. Our players sound eloquent in press conferences. Brain smarts carry over to the game, and maybe it costs us a little in recruiting?, while there’s certainly players out there that you can just run the Forrest Gump offense with. UNC basketball should have had a title taken away for giving grades for classes that never met. They didn’t have to because non athletes could also enroll. What a bunch of garbage and now their new coach is a known cheater. I appreciate this news.
It's probably better to ignore the thread rather than the troll..Since it's happening on many threads, eventually I'm having 2nd thoughts about participating at all in this website. I can only come to the conclusion he is sanctioned to participate, which is giving me serious doubts after all these years to remain here. IMO, it's becoming a cesspool.
It really isn’t. It’s one guy. I didn’t like the heavy overreaction posts that flooded this board earlier in the season. But I understood their frustration. The vast majority have come around since. It’s really just a few boneheads …maybe, one in particular, that some threads go sideways with reach for attention.
Id trade a team 2.5 and Nattys all day long. I care about Baughs GPA as much as I care how much Shands Dr's bench.
Just put him on ignore. He wants to run you off. Why let him win? GC should not have this policy to let the trolls run free. It's damaging the quality and usefulness of the board. It's like letting Chinese Bots run wild. The end result is a lack of integrity of the content.
The audacity of some of these posters on a sports forum.....valuing athletics over academics? Deplorable
I posted a few weeks ago the trolling was partly my fault for allowing it to go on and that it would be addressed and it has: every thread anyone trolls in, they do not get another chance in that thread. If they do it enough from the warning, their points add-up and the site automatically bans them. Permanently. The way this season progressed, we understandably had a lot of unhappy Gators and it was hard to distinguish. It's not now.
And we thank you for the work you do ET, as well as the other Mods. It isn’t easy work and is certainly thankless. May you have many blessings for whichever holiday you will be celebrating this season.
Scholarship takes commitment. An athlete that functions exceptionally in the classroom and on the field has resources that others lack. Here's a playbook for you.
Some of us are fans of the team that represents our University. We do care about both academics and integrity. That does not necessarily put as at odds with fielding a team that compete for titles. I understand that many Gator fans care about the football team only, or sports only, and that is your prerogative, but celebrating this achievement should in no way be denigrated by anyone as it does not impact success on the field. It is hard to imagine why someone would want to turn an achievement like this into a negative.
