Only 65, beyond sad, he always appeared to be a guy that was in great shape. Pneumonia took him out, wow.

I believe Rickey couldn’t bear to see the A’s in Vegas so he chose to exit stage left. So long Rickey and thanks for all you gave.

Legend has it one time somebody quoted John 3:16 to Rickey Henderson and he said “Rickey don’t wanna hear about John hittin’ .316, Rickey’s hittin’ .330.”

I was in the stadium at Oakland when Ricky took the all-time stolen bases record in the early 1990's. A nice addition to a great vacation, considering it was something we did on the spur of the moment. In fact, I've only seen 2-3 pro baseball games in my life, and that was one of them.

I remember his career well. I was a huge Expos fan and Tim Raines was the Ricky Henderson of the National League back then. Raines had some health issues later in his career but finished with 808 SB (5th) all time to Henderson's 1406.

Yeah he got to finish his career close to home with the Marlins, same as team mate Andre Dawson who rose out of Southwest Miami High School. They were both speedsters, batting #1 and #2 and would frequently pull off double steals in Montreal.

I believe Raines was from the Sanford FL area, too.

Henderson was definitely a dude that could steal some bases with ease.

Watched him play at Lockhart Stadium every spring. He never missed batting practice.

He also cost me my favorite little league glove by signing it and ensuring it was stolen. (I didn't have anything else on me to get signed)

Great player, hard worker, and since noone has mentioned it, very cool hair.

I loved that Expos team with Tim Raines, Andrew Dawson, and Gary Carter.

They should have made it to the World Series at least once. They were so close year after year! My heart was broken by the Pirates, then the Phillies (2x maybe?) and then the Dodgers (Rick Monday) in the strike shortened season. It was so hard to be an Expos fan. Finally in '94 we had the best record in the majors but the season got cancelled because of a strike! What? No World Series? This kind of ruined baseball for me. I hardly follow MLB at all, just don't care anymore!
