My first live Gator game since covid. I kinda forgot how different football is in person. You see a lot more on TV. I got more from watching the highlights than at the game. A lot of guys played, which is what we wanted to see.

QB: Lagway was still not 100%. I look forward to seeing him healthy next year. Thinking about it, I actually liked that he struggled some, especially in the 1st half. Great experience for him overcoming adversity. He had two bad INTs, he didn’t see the underneath zone coverages on either play- growing pains. This is exactly why we wanted a bowl game. This learning experience is invaluable.

RB: How can any Gator fan be anything other than jacked about the three man depth chart of Baugh/Jackson/Daniels. We knew about Baugh and Jackson. This was the coming out party for Daniels. He brings a dynamic speed dimension to the group.

WR: Mizell with probably the best game of his career. Makes ya feel good about him going into 2025. Add in a healthy Wilson, Jackson, Sturdivant (UCLA transfer) and the two top recruits, Brown and Wilson. UF looks real good for next year. Nice mix of different sizes and all of them except for Jackson have good to excellent speed.

TE: Nice to see Hansen and Livingston be productive. We also got to see Jackson get some minutes. He’s a different athlete, kinda like Daniels at RB. Looking forward to what he shows in the spring.

OL: For those not impressed with George and BCD on the right side this year, we saw what it was like without them. It was nice to see Lovett start at RT, excellent game day experience. Waites started at RG, I was not impressed. I just don’t think he’s anything other than deep depth.
It was great all the young guys played, especially Kearny, Jones and Westphal. The exact experience we wanted them to get.

DL: I’m gonna keep saying it, excellent experience for the young guys. Robinson and Boireau went from 10-15 snaps as depth rotation to being in the first group with Watson. The whole room played- perfect. Tulane has a nice OL, much better than FSUs; so, good quality experience.

Edge: They were a little thin. This group has been hit the hardest by portal departures. Good to see #9 Weston play a lot. For the three guys left from the 5-man rotation, Gumbs and James looked the most active, as they should have been. True Fr. McCray seemed a little quiet which is OK- it was his last game as a Fr. By this time next year, he’ll probably be the #1 edge.

LB: What a group! From top to bottom, probably the deepest group on the team.

DB: Sill a lot of guys hurt here. I thought Castell stood out and Bridges capped an excellent year with another INT. A lot of injured talent coming back next year. Three top DB recruits were also added. Looking forward to seeing how things shake out here this spring.

This roster is in excellent shape heading into 2025. Probably the best its been since the CM years.

Agree with everything you wrote with the exception of McCray. He's going to have to really step up his game a lot to start next year. I would have hoped that a 5* DE would be a better polished pass rusher at this point but he is not and there is noticeable drop in performance when he subs in. I think we'll see more Sapp and James at the End position with Gumbs getting PT at both OLB and DE on likely passing downs. I think McCray is going to have to earn minutes. Hopefully he does and we can find another effective DE/Edge or 2 in the portal.

I hear ya, I just think it’s a freshman thing. QB and DL/edge are probably the two most difficult positions for true freshmen. Like how Lagway threw two poor INTs, it’s a tough learning process. What I saw from McCray was he’d get attached to O-linemen. He needs to learn to get slippery like James was on his sack. For starting, if Sapp is coming back, he wouldn't need to start next year.

Definitely need more players at edge. To start two more good recruits coming in. From the portal I think one guy ready for for PT and 1 or 2 prospect types would put UF in good shape.

Webb is a great running back, do NOT discount him if he's 100% next year. He was getting pretty good before he got injured.

Everything else was spot on... Nice work, Donzo.

Looked like our plan was to keep their QB contained.

Maybe we need to some additional offensive sets like the 20... the 21... and the 22 added to our list of offensive personnel set pieces? :)

Our O should be legit great, (I still hope for a top OC) let BN manage the rest of the program. heWe have one of the best qb's in the league, we will have one of the top wr's group in the league, imo a top OC would salivate at maximizing the potential of the run and pass. I am not saying BN sucks at calling plays, I'm looking at good to great. I want an OC that has a feel for the game, can adjust on the fly, can exploit all types of defenses. I don't want to just make it to the college playoff, I want uf to win it all. I also like the vast improvement of the D, hopefully we get some edge rushers through the portal.
I will say for the TE's, have to block a whole lot better and I think they will with coaching.

    Nice observation, it makes sence.

The rush looked different from the past few games. I was thinking it was down becasue of the departures at edge, and Jackson and Banks not being able to play at DT. But, Tulane started their wildcat QB. UF, with limited personal, probably emphasized containment rather than an all out rush on their QB.

I can't say I disagree. Although I thought CBN had a good game yesterday. He started running those play action passes to the TE which proved to be very successful.

Big picture, more ingenuity on offense would be a good thing.

Can we acknowledge how much better the roster is going into Napier's 4th year than what he was left after the prior coaches 4th year? People get hung up on class rankings without looking at the details. Napier has upgraded this roster considerably and its not even debatable. Great job.

Now for a criticism. Saw it posted elsewhere that we have ranked 91st, 78th and 73rd in 3rd quarter scoring under Napier. 1st quarter scoring has been even worse with exception of one year. I will say that a defense that can't get off the field probably plays into those numbers however we got off the field last night and still couldn't put up points. DJ owns some of that because he made some freshman mistakes but we finally have a loaded roster with depth at most positions. Hoping to see that lead to significant improvement in those statistics.

We had over 529 yds. and 33 points. Billy didn't short arm that sure TD pass to the wide open receiver, he didn't make the mistakes with the interception in the endzone, and we also had a TD called back. Not a thing wrong with what we saw yesterday, regardless of the OC. It looks like a team that is going to be incredibly formidable going forward. Physical running game, potentially great passing game, and balance, etc. What's not to like?

Aside from some of the game flow issues I think many would like to see Napier clean up the other aspects of the team and not spread himself thin across too many areas. Then there are those who listen too much to GNFP and think his whole offense is "high school." I think the truth is in between and why there are very few head coach/coordinator combos.

That's the only issue I see that truly stands out. But, without some of the on-field decions/mistakes, which are literally out of his hands, it was pretty well called.

How long are we going to keep throwing Waites out there? I just don't think he is good enough to play. Lovett should have moved inside and taken our chances with Westphal or Caden Jones at RT.

I noticed LJ McCray on a couple of plays, hold the edge and force the run back inside. He did his job but it won't show up on the stat sheet. probably why Princely left. He only wanted stats.

Good info. I agree on both Waites and McCray.

I think this is it for Waites in the rotation. On the right side they were down George, BCD and Manuel. Leaving Lovett and Waites as the only experienced players left. I think Kearney ended up playing more than Waites by the end of the game. Westphal and Jones got to play too.

I'd be surprised if McCray isn't real good next year.

As this year taught us, you need at least 4 quality running backs to survive a season. It seems most years that at least one RB will sustain a significant injury. We should have the luxury of redshirting one or both of the freshmen RBs next season, if injuries allow it.
