I despise how much we over spend, but Trump is correct imnsho about removing the debt ceiling. Why have one when for the last 40 years it has been constantly ignored and raised by Congress(no matter which side was in charge).

We need CRs because a Republican controlled Congress is apparently utterly unable to pass an an actual budget.

Both sides do it, but I agree the debt ceiling legislation is really dumb. If the country is at the debt ceiling and Congress passes a bill that causes the ceiling to be breached shouldn't that bill include a provision to raise the ceiling by the amount of the bill. I would rather just get rid of it altogether, it is just another opportunity to put pork spending in legislation that has to pass.

The main reason Trump didn’t want the bill passed is he wanted to raise the debt ceiling, so he can push through another tax cut for the wealthy.

As bad as our debt is, Trump will explode it more than ever. He doesn’t care as it will be a problem for future admins (and all of us)

good point. And this maga led congress has been historically one of the worst we’ve had at actually governing. MAGA screaming & tweeting about culture wars ain’t going to cut it.

Just to make sure I understand how the game works, when the Democrats want it to either eliminate or raise the debt ceiling it was considered a very bad thing but now that Trump wants to do it it's considered a good thing?

Probably the real reason that Trump wants the debt ceiling extended for two years is that he wants to avoid his budget and debt busting tax cut from becoming a campaign issue in the midterms.

But the democrats control the senate and the republicans only have a small majority in the house.

This is it. Trump doesn't care about the debt. In fact he loves debt and calls himself the king of debt. He's going to cut taxes and increase spending.

And that’s the reason MTG is screaming to shutdown the government until Jan. 20th. Zero concern for the nearly million Americans citizens who serve their communities and military who will go without pay for over a month during the Christmas holidays. Many while still being mandated to report to work anyway. It’s disgusting! Congress has one job that must be accomplished every year. This year they already missed the deadline. Only one other president has shutdown the government three time and that was Reagan. You cannot run the government like a business, that is not its purpose. Putting businessmen who have no knowledge of how a government works in charge of one is the best way to waste taxpayer money.

Recent comments encouraging maga to go after any Repub rep voting against edicts from Dear Leader....

    Don Jr.....
"So we need everyone to do what we did over the last few weeks. Call them out. Call their offices. Put on that pressure. Make them feel the pain. I call it — I think Joni Ernst learned this a little bit the hard way — “ETP,” education through pain. It’s a very simple concept."

    Tucker....
"Anyway, just make them obey. I think that’s up to us. Don’t be charmed by them. Force them — spank them like the bad little girls they are. Thank you."

But that small majority and in fact only a minority of that small majority is enough to prevent the passage of a budget or even a CR that would fund the government for a couple of months.

No. The raising of the debt limit should require Congress to take action so the American people are reminded of how much politicians have borrowed in their name and are doing it again.
