So when are we going to see the money spent on housing the homeless? I thought that the right usually discussed that as a "handout" and disparaged the homeless (e.g., Musk calling homelessness a lie). Or is that only the truth when the topic isn't immigrants?

 

True. I wasn't defending it, but pointing out the difference. And a big part of that is the fact the "cultural differences" are fairly non-existent in our case. Especially when you pull back and take a wider view of the world.

I've said this several times, but we'll do it again. How are our South and Central American immigrants different from Sicilians 100 years ago? Only thing I see is the Native American admix and some food options.

In a word, yes. But before we leave this topic let me say two things. One is a statement and one is a question. First the statement; I agree with you completely that neither party has any interest in fixing the immigration crisis. We can argue about Trump’s tactics and results but we have to acknowledge that he is the only politician to put his money where his mouth ran.

Second, do you seriously believe that the bill in question would have done much or anything to improve the crisis? I do not. Not for one second. It did not grant ICE or Border Patrol one damn thing that they already didn’t have. It authorized a lot of money for people and facilities that could not be feasibly hired or built. God only knows how much of that would have flowed to sanctuary cities and to benefits for the illegals.

I totally agree with you on the nature of the crisis, but if you can see what you can see what we know to be happening, please don’t let your political bias overwhelm your better judgement.

 

Last I read the law and asked folks I knew who actually knew the field, yes? It made an effort to get the immigration court judges, resources, and facilities that are sorely needed.

FWIW, I was a politically active Republican before Trump turned the party into a caricature of Idiocracy. It’s honestly depressing.

The war in Ukraine is hurting their economies. The EU will fracture. NATO should have been dissolved 30 years ago

 

Immigrants provide a tremendous contribution to the U.S. economy, unquestionably. From housing construction to fruit & vegetable picking to meat packing factories, they do work that very few Americans are willing to do. Don't you think they deserve anything in return besides a (very small) paycheck? If you push them all out, your food and house maintenance will suddenly become more expensive. Does that concern you?

 

Just as the House GOP killed the 2013 Bipartisan immigration bill. Most everyone else will see a pattern here.
