By: Eric Fawcett -- December 18, 2024 Florida’s 11-0 start has both fans and media alike buzzing as the Gators not only stack up victories but land most of them with decisive margins with the game never really in doubt. It also has started a discussion on the Gator Country Full Court Press forum on an interesting topic–how does this team compare in quality to Florida teams in the past? Optimism around the Gators is as high as it’s been in quite a while, leading various posters to mention they think that this is the best Florida team since ______, a blank space that can be filled in a number of different ways depending on your personal opinion. This Is The Best Florida Basketball Team Since ______ | GatorCountry.com
Besides being way too early, you need to use the AEM for the past great teams after 11 games, not year end, if you are comparing oranges to oranges. Not clear if you did that.
2017 was a very good team that almost made the Final Four even after John Egbunu tore his ACL against Auburn. With Egbunu they had a real good shot at winning it all.
these guys have had a great pre-conference run and it's awesome to see us back in the top 10. I don't know that I'd start comparing them to past glory yet though, it's still early days this season.
"Comparisons are odious." Other than our 2006-2007 teams, because the men that comprised them, under the coach that led them, were nearly identical, it is premature to be pursue a topic as broad as the thread title implies.
Perhaps better to ask, "I have not had this much fun watching Gator basketball since____" Gets to the point without controversy.
I’m not ready for the comparisons…..yet. Gotta see how that first month of in conference play pans out. That being said, with last years team and the beginning of this season, this is the most fun I’ve had watching in quite a while. This year’s team seems a bit more balanced & has the advantage of a returning core from last year, along with additions that are a good fit. Last year I was nervously optimistic about the season. This year, I’m certain they’ll play well. The only reason it’s tough to project is because the conference is flat-out loaded.
