    "They're eating the pets!!!"
An ugly, inexcuseable episode among a lot of ugly episodes. Still a little surprised it was named Lie of the Year. Certainly plenty of competition

And Factcheck's whoppers of the year ... Trump's 'eating the pets', Biden's inflation distortion, Trump's claim about abortion consensus, false FEMA claims ... and so much more.

I'm not sure sure how it could not have been about Biden's health. That lie had much bigger implications that history is going to be looking back on for years versus a lie told at a debate.

This thread stand as substantive evidence of the irrational bias of the Poynter organization and its mouthpiece politi-farce.

That would require the media to own up to their covering up Biden's obvious decline. Never will happen.

I actually agree with this. They hid his condition relatively well. Obviously he was diminished which everyone could see, but the debate performance really shone a spotlight on the extent of it.

I do not think they hid his condition well. I think they hid it just well enough to sell the idea that any questions about Biden's condition was disinformation to voters who were not really paying attention. The weekly weekend (Thursday to Monday) trips to Delaware, the POTUS' schedule, and his limited press availability showed anyone paying attention there was a serious issue. SNL even made fun of all of that with a cold open skit back in March.

I do think a lot of media outlets were uninterested in pushing back on the White House and Democrats talking points about Biden's mental status. I suspect those reasons had to do with internal pressure in news rooms and a fear that they would be seen as legitimizing a Republican conspiracy theory if they did and then attacked by left leaning outlets.

The media has done this before. They covered for FDR's polio, and never showed him in a wheelchair. More recently, they covered for GWB's inability to speak coherently when he was president. They could have been very harsh whenever Bush started spouting gibberish.

Yeah, this doesn't change the fact we were lied to.. big time. As I have said here so many times before, it's as if some people here want to be lied to. It's very strange. "Hey.. bein' lied to ain't so bad!"

I gotta side with the covering up the extent of Biden's declined state. It involved a lot of media, politicians, etc. It was a coordinated effort. &, the consequences were FAR more serious. But, I blame Biden himself the most. It was selfish & dangerous. I think it will & should severely detract from his legacy.

It won him the election, right?

Everybody and their mother flocked to the polls to vote to stop this alleged eating of dogs by Haitians in a small town in uhiya...

A lie with next to zero consequence... some would call such, a "white lie"...

If that's anyone's Idea of a lie of the year, then they're confessing how absolutely FOS they are.

I guess if you thoroughly ignore the humanity of the people in Springfield, Ohio, there were "no consequences." For those who don't, there were consequences.

So you're saying that republicans are morons for believing Trump's obvious lies? And that lies are acceptable as long as it helps you get what want?

It's not so much a lie as an omission. Video gets edited that is more flattering to the politician. After all, the message is usually what's important, not the details of the messenger. The fact that FDR was in a wheelchair does not change the message that he was providing. Showing FDR in a wheelchair would only distract the viewer from the message. Only a small-minded person would want to focus on trivial details while ignoring the larger issues of the day. A lot of people in America need to grow up and recognize what is important in life, and maybe give up some of their hatred for the other side in favor of the ultimate goal--a better country and a better world.

Lies of fabrication or lies of omission; both are lies when done on purpose.
