I know what you’re saying, I just don’t see how fouling there hurts us. It obviously didn’t because he missed the first shot so it was our ball. Even if he makes 1 or both, we get the ball back with 6 seconds on the clock. Really no difference than if he makes a 3 in your scenario.

The foul stopped the clock ! Back off and let them do whatever. The clock will run off . If they hit both ft they are down 2 with a chance to intercept the inbounds with time to score

 

No..they can make the first free throw then miss the 2nd and it gets tipped out for a made 3 to tie the game...you never foul up four.

The problem is that they are very likely going to *at best* score with 2-3 seconds left and we have to inbound the ball, in reality it’s likely closer to 1 second. With that foul, we are now likely up 2 with 6 whole seconds left trying to inbound the ball underneath our own basket which sets up a world of bad possibilities.

You are correct it worked out and if that was a 45% free throw shooter then analytically it’s probably a different situation albeit I’d assume still a bad idea, but in this case we got super lucky.

 

first of all, you don't want to stop the clock, but even in the situation should he makes the first, he could intentionally miss the second and come up with the rebound and hit a game tying 3. unless you have a foul to give, you want the clock to run.

 

Took no time off the clock. As mentioned, if haugh missed then foul otherwise make them burn clock and earn a shot. If they hit their free throws then foul immediately and we miss one or both they have a chance to win or tie with probably 3 seconds which is plenty of time

 

The foul was terrible because it almost ended me.

Wrong. You make the first, throw a clunker hard against the glass on the second, and hope to get the wild rebound. This gives you a chance to sink a tying 3.

 

Now that I have come down from the intensity of watching the game I have to say that UNC imploded. They came out with no idea about the intensity of the Gator D and we were shooting lights out. A lethal combo that was not really sustainable. UNC actually played well late in the first half to make it only a 12 point game at half time.

Then they came out with a lot more intensity than we had and made a game of it. Then it was back and forth until crunch time and UNC blinked first.

Game over.

 

It has to hit the rim or else it is an inbound for the team not shooting the free throw.

 

The energy in the arena felt like a March tourney game. What a win with a hostile crowd. Chanting it's great to be a Florida Gator walking out was glorious.

 

I don't think it's a brain fart. Analytics say to foul there and Golden has talked about he would foul with the lead in this situation. Unless I'm totally misremembering.

 

If Haugh had missed and we were up three the foul was the correct play. Up 4 it isn't.

 

All three starting guards finished strong for us.
