Soo.. I am guessing the average Tampan thinks the Gasparilla bowl, and all the Gasparilla festivals, are all about Jose Gaspar and not sarsaparilla. Or are they?
Fun fact #3: The fine City of Tampa was involved in the cover-up with the FDA. When the FDA outlawed Sarsaparilla in root beer in the 1960s, because it was a known carcinogen, the fine City o' Tampa by the Bay whitewashed the Sarsaparilla Bowl from the city's history archives in accordance with the FDA's mandate. The fine City o' Tampa by the Bay instead instituted a false narrative claiming the Gasparilla Bowl was named after Jose Gaspar. The more you know...
It doesn't matter. The bowl practices are over hyped by the fans. The players couldn't care less. They are tired, injured and have finals to take to stay eligible. They just want to go home. Unless you're in the playoffs and the games actually mean something. Remember the 20 hour a week contact rule still applies. So the reality is the players might get 15-20 hrs of actual practice time with the other 20+ hrs spent in meetings/film study/workouts over the course of two weeks(40 hrs) before the bowl game.
Went to Canada a few years ago and it was either Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island had a 20 minute different time zone for some reason.
I recall years back Indiana had like 3 time zones — central and eastern and then some counties wouldn’t buy into daylight savings time. So like half the year you could find 3 different times in Indiana. I think I recall that correctly
I will watch the game tomorrow, but honestly, this is a no-win game for us. If Florida wins, well, we were supposed to win what amounts to a home game against a decent G5 opponent without their starting QB and best player, but if we were to lose or win by an insufficient margin, 75% of the fans will demand Billy's head, while the other 25% will say it didn't matter, the players didn't care, yada yada yada... Hope we win 44-3 just to keep the boards harmonious...
It's a meaningless game, but for all intents and purposes, if we lay an egg or somehow lose, we have higher expectations at Florida than does Tulane and we would be rightfully concerned.
It is Newfoundland you are thinking of, they are half an hour ahead of the other Atlantic provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island)
We won’t lose so don’t go down that road. No win game my butt - tomorrow, er today, we complete an 8-5 season. Go Gators
If it’s a big deal to lose 5 games in a row to end a season (including a bowl loss), it’s a big deal to win 4 in a row to end a season (including a bowl win). If we judge Napier on wins and losses, then “all” the wins count… just like all the losses count.
