    Sadly a lot of the argument for giving young kids a phone (and bringing them to school) is for things like this

    First, that isn't what you said. You said "Bots gotta bot." That seems to be calling jo "a bot." Can you explain to me, so that I know the rules thoroughly, why calling somebody a bot isn't "sniping."

    Second, that is a whataboutism. Weren't we just told that personal sniping wasn't allowed and that we should stay on issues?

    And I have yet to see this "verification." Can you show me this? As all I remember is Vegas showing up on here telling us to check out his Twitter account for verification that he wasn't a member of a Russian troll farm (notably, not a bot), which he claimed was widely followed, but which turns out to be an account he formed the same month that he joined here and which claims that he is a woman (a pretty well known tactic by the troll farms to increase reach on Twitter). He engages in several known troll farm tactics, such as claiming to be heavily involved in gambling (again, that seems to be related to engagement) and attempting to elevate obscure Pro-Russian sources on every topic. And that is before we get to the bonkers misspellings and stories that he tells.

    I agree that people shouldn't call some of our more annoying right-wingers bots or state that they are trolls assigned to this board. But that particular example seems pretty evidence-based. You seem to be lashing out with a personal attack.

    I’m not a teacher, but imo, children having phones in class is a bigger problem for education and behavior than concerns about “wokeness”, random culture battles, or banning books.

    True. Back in the 60s we didn’t have ammosexuals bragging and boasting about how they had 50 guns at home, ready to take on mythical armed intruders and the government. Didn’t have gun nuts taking family pics with mom, dad, kids and the dogs toting heat. That’s some 2024, modern era American gun culture ish.

    Meh. I'm not concerned with what "my side" says or thinks about me (or really much of anything, because I'm not sure that I have "a side.")

    I'll step back from this trading words. But you'll see. Well, actually, we already can see, so let's take a tiny look;

    - If the United States had started to be reasonable about gun laws when we should have -30-50 years ago- then you probably could have a lot fewer worries as a parent. At least on this. We can be pretty sure where things will be on the present trajectory.

    Gun violence is like Trump; it requires more than words of disapproval - particularly when an entire political party criminal organization enables them both.

    Looks like the daddy is a wack job too. Look for charges against him to come down. Just a hunch...

    My opinion is to create "tiers" of concealed carry permits.

    One for 'normal' civilians who go nowhere but Walmart, Publix, and home.

    Another for folks who wish to take guns to currently prohibited areas (schools, bars, etc); for that, make the background checks more rigorous, almost like a pseudo-law enforcement certification (much like Brinks security), except with no arrest power.
