By: Eric Fawcett -- December 15, 2024 Holding on as one of the final six undefeated teams the Florida Gators (10-0) will get their most difficult challenge of the season so far when they take on the North Carolina Tar Heels (6-4) in the Jumpman Invitational taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesday. UNC has a set of really good guards. But Florida has bigger guards with more experience and they are also really good. Front court comparison is a no brainer. Gators by a lot. But UNC is desperate for a signature win and they are playing what is essentially a home game. Slight edge Gators. Expect a weirdly called game. I expect Doug Shows will be there to add to the lack of flow to the game.
Should be a fun game…great start for the gators. A weak schedule so far but the SEC will tell the truth. Hopefully, we can contend for the championship.
ET - Shout out to Eric, He does such a great job year in and year out. Eric, Chris Harry, love their reporting!
Lurker - Correct me if I'm wrong: "But Florida has bigger guards" Primary Guard Rotation Martin: 6'-2" + can dunk and leap Walter: 6'-3" + can dunk and leap Richard: 6'-4" + can dunk and leap Aberdeen: 6'-5" + can dunk and leap UF's guards can play peremeter defense, can finish at the basket, can rebound and play pretty good overall defense. Martin is an Alpha that can impose his will by physicality. Some pundits are now recognizing this group as one of the best rotations in the nation!
I don't know if he is or isn't but he seems to get a lot of our games of national interest. And just imagine that Ted Valentine was also on the crew. Double Ugh.
I noticed that Seth Davis voted for us as #19 in the latest AP poll up from #20 the week before. Maybe he will make UF his #18 pick next week?
He was there but for the most part didn't inject himself into the game that much. We got about the usual number of homer calls but worked through it.
