Poor cluckugator, looks like he swallowed the conventional Deep State/MSM narrative hook, line and sinker. The OP, G8trGr8t, agreed with cluck you and put me on ignore. Can't blame him, ignorance is bliss.

The reality was known that the US would support the Al Qaeda-types in a war in Syria. The purpose was to destroy Syria to weaken Israel's enemy, Iran.
    The Redirection

The idea was to create a "Salafist principality" in NE Syria to be a thorn in the side of Assad and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

A 2012 Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) document foretold the rise of ISIS in Eastern Syria:
"THE WEST, GULF COUNTRIES, AND TURKEY [WHO] SUPPORT THE [SYRIAN] OPPOSITION… THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING A DECLARED OR UNDECLARED SALAFIST PRINCIPALITY IN EASTERN SYRIA (HASAKA AND DER ZOR), AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE SUPPORTING POWERS TO THE OPPOSITION WANT, IN ORDER TO ISOLATE THE SYRIAN REGIME.

The DIA report, formerly classified “SECRET//NOFORN” and dated August 12, 2012, was circulated widely among various government agencies, including CENTCOM, the CIA, FBI, DHS, NGA, State Dept., and many others."
2012 Defense Intelligence Agency document: West will facilitate rise of Islamic State “in order to isolate the Syrian regime”

Yes the US considered Al Qaeda and ISIS to be our enemies in Iraq. In Syria the head-choppers were seeen as allies. As Jake Sulliven told Hillary Clinton in 2022: "In Syria Al Qaeda is on our side."
    Clinton Foundation Timeline

Yes the US attackeded ISIS in Mosul. The idea was to funnel them to Raqqa, Syria where they could become the salafist principality" envisioned by the 2012 DIA document. One problem. Between Mosul and Raqqa was the city of Deir Ezzor which was occupied by Assad's Syrian Arab Army. The US opened the corridor to Raqqa by sponsoring attacks on the SAA in Deir Ezzor
"Two recent attacks against the Syrian Arab Army in east-Syria point to a U.S. plan to eliminate all Syrian government presence east of Palmyra. This would enable the U.S. and its allies to create a "Sunni entity" in east-Syria and west-Iraq which would be a permanent thorn in side of Syria and its allies...

On August 18 Kurdish YPK units suddenly attacked Syrian government positions in the center of Hasakah in the north-east of Syria. Before this incident the relations between the two entities had been decent despite some earlier, small clashes. The attacking Kurds were under advice from U.S. special operators. When the Syrian air force intervened the U.S. threatened to down its planes. The Syrian forces had to eventually retreat from populated areas in Hasakah and are now confined to an airport next to the city. They are cut of from supplies and will eventually have to give up."
    https://www.moonofalabama.org/2016/...ipality-forseen-in-the-2012-dia-analysis.html

US airplanerses went on to bomb the most important SAA position in Deir Ezzor, which was immediately occupied by ISIS fighters. The city was surrounded by ISIS and they shut down the airport where the Syrian gov't sent food for the city's inhabitants. The city soon fell to ISIS head-choppers, as planned by the US (per the above article).

US airplanes attacked the most important Syrian government position in Deir Ezzor. Nearly a hundred Syrian soldiers were killed and most of the heavy equipment the Deir Ezzor garrison had left was destroyed. Immediately after the attack fighters of the Islamic State occupied the bombed out government positions. These Islamic States fighters now own the heights above the Deir Ezzor airport. A day later the Islamic State shot down a Syrian government plane near Deir Ezzor

ISIS paid Off to Leave Mosul and Take Deir Ezzor?

    From 2017:
" US Makes Ceasefire Deal with ISIS
    ...
This is ridiculous. Over and over the U.S. gave ISIS all chances to grow and to escape destruction. It itself made similar cease fire and retreat deals with the Takfiris.

The ISIS core was groomed in a U.S. prison in Buqqa, Iraq. It later came from Iraq into Syria. Obama as well as then Secretary of State Kerry are on the record saying that they intentionally let ISIS grow to oust the Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki and the Syrian President Assad. The U.S. let ISIS flee from Fallujah and protested when the Iraqi government bombed the escaping ISIS convoys. In the assault on ISIS held Mosul the U.S. military held open a corridor towards Syria to let ISIS fighters escape. When the Kurdish U.S. proxy attacked Raqqa the front towards Palmyra was left open to let ISIS flee. Russia protested. Recently 1,800 out of 2,000 ISIS fighters fled from Tal Afar towards Syria before the Iraqi army assaulted the city. This is why I could take the city in just 10 days. U.S. action was designed to enable ISIS to take Deir Ezzor and only a heroic defense by Syrian troops prevented that."

Syria - The U.S. Controlled Al-Tanf Serves As ‘ISIS’ Base - Truth Or Propaganda?
    https://www.moonofalabama.org/2021/...-serves-as-isis-base-truth-or-propaganda.html

And on and on and on...

    The US,
Turkey, UK and Israel worked together to support ISIS and Al Qaeda in Syria

When the rebranded head-choppers (HTS) plowed through Syria to take Damascus Israel helped pave the way for them by bombing Syrian military targets as well as military storage sites and air defense systems.
The U.S. is bombing the central desert of Syria. It claims to strike ISIS but the real target is any local (Arab) resistance which could prevent a connection between the U.S. controlled east of Syria with the Israel controlled south-west. There may well be plans to further build this connection into an Eretz Israel, a Zionist controlled state "from the river to the sea"."

    https://www.moonofalabama.org/2024/...h.html?cid=6a00d8341c640e53ef02c8d3c5e9a2200c

Not one global st4ategist or analyst I cited by me on the Ukraine War thread thinks the US did not support a Satanist principality in Syria. ISIS, like Al Qaeda, was "on our side."

    HTS roots per the BBC:
"HTS was set up under a different name,
Jabhat al-Nusra, in 2011 as a direct affiliate of al-Qaeda.

The leader of the self-styled Islamic State (IS) group, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was also involved in its formation."
Who are Syrian rebels Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, HTS?

The CIA, MI6, MIT and Mossad all helped ISIS and HTS. Is HTS rebranded ISIS?

The homicidal puppet of your friends in Moscow and Tehran was defeated. Accept the reality. While HTS is an offshoot of al-Qaeda that association ended over a decade ago and it's never been part of ISIS. Speaking of terrorists, right up until its demise the Assad government of Syria was considered a state supporter of terrorism by the US State Department and that designation goes all the way back to 1979 when Hafez al-Assad Bashar's father was running the country.

Accept the reality that your beloved neocons overthrew the protector of Jews, Christians and other religious minorities and replaced them with head-choppers

You think Ukraine's borders were sacrosanct but Syria's borders could be violated with impunity because that's what your Israeli puppet masters wanted?

That's why they call it the US rules-based order. Our rules and no order

I was not expecting this. The Druze in Syria are requesting that their part of Syria be made a part of Israel, so they do not have to worry about radical or homicidal Muslims like ISIS being in charge. The Druze are not Islamic exactly, and not exactly Christian. They are Abrahamic and monotheistic.

I hope this is KS/Qatar/UAE talking to the man about reconstruction funding. Either way, I like seeing it. Don't like seeing the olive branch to discuss reconciliation.

Syria's new government says Russia should 'reconsider' its troops in country

The Spokesperson for the political department of Syria’s new transitional government has called on Russia to reconsider its presence in the country now that their ally; President Bashar al-Assad, has been overthrown. A convoy of Russian military vehicles was spotted traveling from the coastal city of Latakia, and were headed southward towards the city of Tartus.

Western analysts and intelligence say the Kremlin is engaging in a large-scale withdrawal from Syria, though Moscow has yet to confirm. Obeida Arnaout, the spokesman for Syria’s new transitional government appointed by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) rebel group responsible for Assad’s downfall, says Russia’s recent movement in Syria has been ambiguous.

He stresses that their decision to remove navy ships from ports and move fleets of military vehicles from bases does not clearly indicate whether the Kremlin is indeed withdrawing, or if this is part of their regular movements.“I think that Russia should reconsider its presence on Syrian territory as well as its interests,” he said. “Their interests were linked to the criminal Assad Regime. They can reconsider and take the initiatives to reach out to the new administration to show that they have no animosity with the Syrian people, and that the era of Assad regime is finally over,” Arnaout added.

Works for Israel. That said, if I'm Israel there is NO WAY I'm ever giving up Golan. Strategically. Tactically. No way you can do that. They had the higher ground, they lost it and will never get it back.

I can see a way they would, similar to returning the Sinai to Egypt, in exchange for full diplomatic recognition, a peace treaty, fair trade agreements, and demilitarization of the Heights with UN personnel stationed there to monitor it. All of that is far more valuable to Israel in the long run than the terrain itself is.

IDK. That's the epitome of high ground. Unless you are absolutely sure they are 100% friendly, I don't know if I'd take the chance. I think that was one of the issues in the 70s, that the Syrians were able to deploy on a plateau that overlooked Israel. Nevertheless, good points. Just not sure about the plausibility factor.

Alex Mercouris or any competent analyst.

America was the protector of ISIS.
The US bombed the Syrian Arab Army as it tried to cross the Euphrates river (I believe) to fight them.

The US got caught dropping supplies to ISIS. It claimed they did so by mistake.

At one point people wondered why US forces stopped pursuing ISIS as it fled into the desert in NE Syria. A top US military official said it was because of sandstorm. As Bernhard at Moon of Alabama pointed out at the time, the sand storms had ended 5 days before.

No links for the above unless challenged. Posted from memory.

My recollection is that John McCain and Lindsey Graham were photographed with members of ISIS and AL Qaeda (per the blog The Last Refuge)

There were 7 countries Bibi Netanyahu wanted the US/Israel et al to go to war with in 1996. These were countries that supported the Palestinians: Somalia, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Iran. The US started/instigated wars in 6 of those 7 countries. Israel is America's puppet master.

In 2006 Nobel laureate Joseph Stigler said the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would cost the US $6 Trillion.
    Cost of the war
Interest on the war debt going forward
    Disability payments to our soldiers
    Medical expenses for our fighters

Imagine what those wars would cost if all expenses were calculated today going forward

It was the 60s, but, yes, Syria used that plateau to shell Israeli settlements right up until the day Israeli seized it with contemptuous ease in 1968. I think demilitarization (just as the Sinai is demilitarized of Egyptian forces) would solve that Israeli concern neatly.

OT - sort of..things continue to deteriorate in Iran and they are now having to shut down industrial production as their power grid collapses. Iran could easily fall as swift as Syria did if the dominoes start.

Iran orders mandatory closure of industry amid growing energy crisis

Iran's government has mandated the temporary shutdown of industrial towns nationwide as the country grapples with severe electricity shortages, according to a report by ILNA on December 16.

Working-class Iranians already under stress due to inflationary pressure on everyday food items will likely face further delays in payments as cash flow is squeezed further.

The closures, confirmed by Mohsen Naqashi, Secretary of the Federation of Food and Agriculture Organisations, require factories in industrial towns to cease operations until the end of the week (December 20).

Naqashi reluctantly described the directive as a response to ongoing power outages that have disrupted production and left industries in a precarious state. Naqashi said that these closures will significantly impact production units and result in widespread job losses, adding that many businesses are already struggling with raw material shortages and heavy government bureaucracy. Factory owners have resorted to desperate measures to sustain operations.

Trump says Turkey orchestrated Assad’s overthrow in Syria – POLITICO

Turkey controls the militants that ousted former Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said during a wide-ranging and at times incoherent press conference Monday.

“Those people that went in are controlled by Turkey,” he said during the event, his first press conference since winning the presidential election in November. “And that’s okay, that’s another way to fight.”

In answer to a question about the 900 U.S. troops currently in Syria, Trump began to speak of his decision to pull American soldiers out of the country during his last stint as president, before getting sidetracked and talking about Turkey and its president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

“Turkey is a major force, by the way,” he said. “Erdoğan is somebody I got along with great, but he has a major military force. And his has not been worn out with war. He’s built a very strong, powerful army.”

There was a post yesterday somewhere that a group in Syria wanted their land annexed to Israel for their own protection, I can't find it right now.
