Here we go!!!! Time for the inaugural "Playoff Week" edition of the Pick'Em contest! Not sure how it's going to work out but it will be fun to find out. Here are the rules as posted way back at the beginning of the season: PLAYOFF WEEK RULES/SCORING The playoffs will include 12 teams. 4 of the teams have bye-weeks, 8 do not. Contestants will pick 3 teams from the pool of 12 playoff teams; however, you will need to include at least one team with a bye-week, and one team that doesn’t have a bye-week. The order of the three teams matter, same as always, with the top team being worth 5, then 4, then 3. That number of points will then be added to your total for every win that team gets throughout the playoffs. For example, if your 5-point selection is a non-bye week team and they end up winning the whole thing, you would get 20 points for that selection (4 wins at 5 points each). If your 2nd pick was a Bye- team and they win their first game, but lose their second game, you would get 4 points. Then say your 3rd pick lost their first game, you would 0 points for that selection. So, your total score for the playoff “week” would be: 20+4+0 = 24 Total. The advantage of picking teams that have bye-weeks are that they are technically better teams than the non-bye teams. But to counter this, non-bye-week teams have the potential to play 4 games as opposed to only 3 that team with a bye-week have. Not sure if there would be an advantage either way, so that’s why I made the rule that at least one of each needs to be included. This is the only major change from last season. If these scoring/rules for the playoff week are unclear or need more explaining, let me know and I will do so. **Added note, Bye-week teams are seeds 1-4. Also, on a funny aside... kind of hilarious that in my initial post I said that teams that have bye-weeks are typically the better teams... certainly doesn't appear to be the case ! From my calculations, the max score would be 38 points, but that is based on two Non-Bye teams reaching the finals, which is doubtful. I'm guessing 30 points will be tough to get. (Feel free to check my math/logic on that one) So, long story short. Pick 3 teams, at least one bye (Seeds 1-4), at least one non-bye (Seeds 5-12). Rank them like you always have, and let's see how this thing shakes out. ***Picks due at 8:00PM Friday December 20th. Here are the playoff contenders: Seed Team 01 Oregon 02 Georgia 03 Boise State 04 Arizona State 05 Texas 06 Penn State 07 Notre Dame 08 Ohio State 09 Tennessee 10 Indiana 11 SMU 12 Clemson Good luck to all, and to all: GO GATORS!!!!
You can find the current standings in the bowl week thread, 2nd post. Also, just a friendly reminder, Bowl Week picks are due tomorrow at 9:00.
This is tough... I think everyone's picks are going to be somewhat similar. It will be hard for anyone to pick Oregon/Tennessee/Ohio St., but if someone does, and they win... it might give them the boost they need. ND seems like an easy pick as they SHOULD win 1, but doubtful they win 2. Penn State looks like they could win 2, but then again, they're Penn State...
Those are the three i have written down. Questionable on penn st as they are one i could see actually being a surprise winner of a few games.
