The terms of that show he can “earn” it back so it is really much ado about nothing.

I was referring to WR Johntay Cook, I think I hit reply to the post below the one I meant to reply too.

Maybe not, but it came from his ridiculous salary with horrible results. I know people who are big Nole fans, they were ready to get rid of him. Mike bet on a QB that wasn’t good at Clemson and had a lot of snaps. FSU probably told him we will get the money for him but after this year’s results, he wasn’t going to get much help unless he could show he was all in. A gamble to show he can turn it around.

I am ok with good results he should, just like in any kind of job, show me and you will be rewarded.

I'm not sure that "forced" is something on that FSU could have accomplished, since the alternative is paying that giant buyout which we all know that they can't do. I'm sure, however, that FSU thinks they can force someone to renegotiate their contract since they tried mightily to force the ACC to do it and failed. I don't doubt that they strongly "suggested" that he re-negotiate his contract.

Its a smart move by Norvell. He is betting on himself, and gets good PR for the move since it projects that he is willing to sacrifice to get the team back on track.

They can't force a change of his contract.....but there are plenty of ancillary items that can impact him. Assistant coaching choices/salaries, support staff numbers, facility enhancements....lots of ways they hold the strings

Sure and probably the biggest one is restricting NIL that would allow him to buy players he thinks he needs to turn it around. Still, I guess he could have just shut it down like Mullen did and take his lumps to get to that buyout as soon as possible. Of course, he is young and may not be ready to retire yet.

Agreed Crusher, on the surface it look like a positive all around for Seminole fans. The devil is in the details of course.
No matter how anyone spins it, 2024 was the worst possible catastrophe for FSU, short of some internal scandal.

FSU pissed off the ACC, lost 10 games, the recruiting plummeted, they re-upped Mike with a massive contract, and they are going to have a massive turnover to re-field a team in 25.

Norvell's seat will be uncomforable unless they come out of the chute winning in 25. I imagine the kickoff against Bama will be ugly for them however.

Honestly can't recall a shut down like Mullen, I'm sure there are examples but most guys are competitive enough to dig in. Seems like when they forced him to get rid of Hevesy and Grantham he gave up

You are correct, for some reason, i confused Johntay Cook for Ja'corey Brooks. Forgive me and carry on. Hey Cook & Brook sound similar and they were both 5 star WR. Lol:confused:

Bring on Cook for lagway to throw to.

Maybe we should have got a kickback from our first two and a half years of misery to help with recruiting. I wonder if we see that becoming the new normal with long term deals and coaches not getting results quickly. Schools may want to give the coach more time and not pay the buyout and the coach throws some money back in the pot for recruiting so he can continue and have a better chance to put a winning product on the field. The new NCAA...terrible.
