If they do privatize it, hopefully they start making rural/red America pay its fair share for postal service.

A private company would either need to raise rates by a ridiculous amount or cut out rural routes. Either way they wouldn't be in business very long.

Hey, but there will be a solid 10 years where they fool investors over the promise of self-driving mail trucks, AI or drone delivery and operate at a loss while attracting new rounds of investment. (Until it all comes crashing down)

A lot of things can be done to make the Post office more efficient. Just going to 3 times a week delivery would help a lot.

Fine with me. Kill the post office. The people it will hurt most voted for this so, who am I to challenge their wisdom?

Why does the post office need to be efficient? (which simply seems to mean less service) And who cares if it makes money or even breaks even? The main reason it doesnt is because the people who hate the PO front-loaded their pension plans by law. That seems to be the real goal of privatization, to offload pensions and force people into the market.

The Postal Service is intended to be a public service not a profit-making entity. Under Article II, Section 8 of the Constitution Congress is authorized to establish a postal service. Ironically if the Postal Service was privatized the cost would be borne by residents of bright red rural areas, the folks responsible for maps showing most of the country red. It's significantly more costly to deliver mail to sparsely populated rural counties than it is to densely populated urban counties. In the end it will be the Trump voter in rural Wyoming, Montana or South Dakota who ends up paying $5 or more to receive or send a first class letter or $20 plus for a small package, not the Democratic voter residing in Brooklyn, NY.

We ship UPS, FedEx, and USPS. We try not to ship USPS because they are so untrustworthy, but their rates keep us using them.

Good point although the cost would still be considerably higher than for delivery to urban areas.

The post office already exists so it cant make the government "bigger," its probably one of the most popular things the government does. I assume that's why conservatives want to get rid of it.

Maga mistakenly believes just breaking stuff/burn it all down is effective government. Possibly out of their sense of entitlement that everything will continue as-is; just because. Or dissatisfaction with their own circumstances, which they attribute to government failures. But we will soon have a Maga congress, potus, scotus. It’s now their call. No more deflecting blame.
    We’ll soon see….
