Texas is defeated and dominated by Creighton 3-1. The Bluejays are the real deal. Their defense was phenomenal. They had 20 assisted blocks and only 1 blocking error.

Creighton knocked out Texas today 3-1. The SEC got 8 teams in the field of 64 and 5 of them made the Final 16. Very deep and competitive league this year. But unless Texas A&M upsets Wisconsin later today, only Kentucky will make the Final 8. And they face #1 Pittsburgh next. The truly elite teams for 2024 are Pittsburgh, Louisville, Wisconsin, Stanford, Nebraska Penn State and maybe Creighton, who has wiped out 2 SEC teams in a row in the tournament. Women's D1 volleyball is one of my favorite sports to watch and I sure hope Coach Wise can bring in a couple of high quality transfers that will help elevate next year's team to one that's Final 4 caliber. Gooo Gators!!

I just watched the #1 seed in the tournament, Pittsburgh, eliminate Kentucky 3-0 and was very impressed with former Gator middle blocker Bre Kelley. She hit .500 for the match with 8 kills and had some really nice blocks. She was 1st team All-ACC, hitting .506 for the season with 149 blocks, only 5 blocking errors for the whole year. We could have really used her on the Gator team this year and she's still got another year of eligibility left with Pitt. Just an aside, Kentucky loses 6 seniors off their team this year.

Just now reading tge SEC is bringing back a conference volleyball tournament next year. Any thoughts on whether this is good to get some bonus points for seeding or not so good because the conference is getting better and could hurt your seeding? Seems like a disadvantage to me because I don't think the other big conferences do this...extra games could mean extra chances at losses.

I started this thread two and a half years ago. That day, I found a new favorite player -- disappointed to see her collegiate career end Thursday, but what a ride.

She was undersized by far for her position but her grit landed her a starting role. It was fun to watch her improve from "just hit the crap out of the ball" to finesse-placed shots and even dinks. Her serve was always exciting to watch -- feast or famine -- but more feast this year.

Of course, I'm talking about AC Fitzpatrick. Here's what I wrote 2.5 years ago after seeing her for the first time at the Lemerand Athletic Center.

Really like her, but unfortunately part of front line is defense and she was a liability in that respect. No fault of her own, but height is height.

Are you talking about the post-match, on-court interview? I just watched the replay and she didn't say anything even remotely like that, and nothing at all about transferring or UF.

She's a 6'2" redshirt freshman who led Arkansas in kills and kills per set. Was named to the SEC All Freshman team. I haven't seen any official announcement, but she would be a very good addition.

Being from Mississippi, Aniya is likely very familiar with Dee McMillian our 6'3" freshman MB coming in via Mississippi and Texas:

    Aniya Madkin

UF gets Aniya for 3 years as she redshirted in 2023.

Welcome aboard Aniya. It's Great to be a Florida Gator!

Nebraska whipped up on Wisconsin 3-0, so all 3 #1 seeds have advanced to the Final 4 so far. Penn St./Creighton play tonight for the last slot. Merritt Beason was good as usual. She's 2nd on their team in points scored, plus serves well and plays solid defense. But the top 2 players on their team this year is setter Bergen Reilly (1297 assists) and Harper Murray, a devastating hitter, she of the 20 or so earrings!!
