Try and follow along. Trask's high school ran an option heavy offense. The little playing time he did get to play during garbage time trask lit it up passing. He got recruited to play in a more traditional drop back offense and when Mullen came along he was reluctant to play him because Mullen wants run heavy qbs. Trask came in for relief of franks who had a complete meltdown against Missouri and immediately led florida downfield to a touchdown and better passing stats. There was speculation Trask MIGHT get the next start but he got hurt in practice. Follow up the next year with franks struggling against miami and Kentucky before getting hurt and what happened? Trask finally got his chance again and immediately lead florida to multiple scores. Mullen was going to lose that game if not for Trask. Crediting Mullen for Trask is just bizarre. Telling someone else they have revisionist thinking is flat out crazy.
should have said what Mullen did in 2019 was insane. Trask only played because Franks got hurt. That cannot be argued. Mullen also chose Jones over Coral. He may be a great QB developer, but he sure chose crappy ones to work on.
It very much can be argued, because Mullen benched Franks in lieu of Trask for the 2nd half of the Missouri game the prior year. There was a ton of speculation towards the end of the 2018 season that Mullen was considering playing Trask over Franks and he had already shown a willingness to bench Franks for an entire half against Missouri. Yes, the Franks injury in early 2019 ended that debate, but it's not as if Franks would have started no matter what happened without his injury. He was already on thin ice when he got hurt.
No point in trying to debate with someone like yourself. You change arguments, ignore facts and rely on confirmation biases. It's ok. You and Mullen have one thing in common. You have smartest guy in the room syndrome lol. Everybody else is wrong.....
You're crucifying Napier for not starting a true freshman over a veteran Mertz in his second year with the offense but give Mullen a pass for not playing Trask starting in 2018 lol.
Must take hours untangling himself from the contortions it takes to try and justify his incorrect posts
LOL, try and follow along. Lagway and Trask are both from Texas, but that's about where their commonalities end. One was the Gatorade Player of the Year coming out of HS and the other was the backup at his high school. We're not going to get 4 years out of DJ Lagway, so making him the backup this season was going to reduce him to essentially a 2-year player. Notwithstanding Mertz had just come off back-to-back 7 loss campaigns at QB. It was clearly time to move on and I said as much before the Miami game and every week up until the Tennessee game. And of course, that's been validated.
Unfortunately there isn’t a “hit the nail on the head” button. As I was reading all the nonsense from another I couldn’t help but remember all this and you already typed it all out.
Mertz was not the issue last year, the defense was. That’s why the returning starting QB gets the shot over a true freshman at the beginning of the next season.
