Nothing like proposing a bill to give college athletes a felony for "disrespecting" your university. I assume Ohio has no other issues this guy could be worrying about besides using big gov to enforce his nonsense. Bill would make flag planting at Ohio St. a felony
Damn. I was hoping this was a proposal for turning the NCAA into a federal regulatory agency with actual authority to make and enforce rules. I would be all for that.
Bill Simmons had the idea a long time ago that the govt needs a sports czar to fix messed up things in sports. MLB salary cap? Check. NCAA overhaul? Check. But alas, just more big gov.
Yeah, got it, but there are just situations where regulations are important, and the federal government needs to be in charge of those regulations. One non-controversial example is aviation. Should the aircraft companies just decide for themselves what is safe and what isn't? Should each state have its own different flight regulations? As a pilot, I have never heard anyone argue that. College sports have become such an expensive business that cross state boundaries that I would have to argue that federal regulation and enforcement would be the best thing for all concerned except those programs, such as Alabama, who get to be special and play by their own rules.
Hard to imagine he really thought that should be a law. Now, if he wanted to make running up the middle on third and long a felony …
