To add: I don’t think gunning down CEOs is the solution. Rarely does a violent revolution or uprising go well in a country. We were extremely fortunate here that Washington was not a tyrant and stepped aside willingly for the interests of the country. In a sane, measured country, leadership would seriously look at why this guy did what he did, and more importantly, why so many people are disturbingly okay with it. Many are clearly even hoping it happens again and again. What’s the root cause? What can we do, as a nation, to fix that? Unfortunately, answers to those questions would financially harm people who fund our leadership. Their short-sightedness is going to lead to more violence. If you factor in the imminent jettisoning of many key services from the FedGov for profit, it’s only going to get worse. Desperate people will go to extreme means to protect themselves.
That dude despite being a son of a mostly republican family was registered as unaffiliated. I will correct what I said as what I read earlier appears to be missing some context. He only spoke against wokesim because he felt it was not helpful but he still had left-leaning socialeconomic thoughts. He was also more on the climate alarmist side of things. It may come down to he is a "libertarian" who also supported RFK Jr. you could find all of this out yourself if you would take 5-10 mins looking at his X account. Anyhow, what about the so many on the left championing this guy for killing the CEO of a large health insurance company?
My man, it’s not just the left who are celebrating this man’s death. There are a lot of right wing populists who are just as happy…
The left celebrates people who kill CEOs, the right celebrates people who kill black teens, homeless people on the subway and BLM protestors. That's the political spectrum.
Matt Gaetz posted the shooter was hot. Righties on here have said “I get it”. It’s not a political spectrum issue it’s an issue with the healthcare industry across the spectrum manifesting as cruel reactions to an industry leader’s death. The fact you can’t pick that out of an easy line up is a you problem.
No time to fix healthcare. Busy with their cherry picked subjects to tackle. Politics are just a vehicle for wealth transfer and satisfying egos
While the irony is rather obvious and I'm not defending Mangione in any way. In fact he should be spending the rest of his life in a secure facility in New York State. While Brian Thompson didn't deserve to lose his life at the hands of Mangione that still doesn't change the fact that Thompson's success was in an industry with a business plan that frequently resulted in the affliction of pain on millions of Americans.
Here is a weird aspect of Health Insurance: its value is that you are expendable. Essentially, you are buying the service of a company believably letting you die as a means by which to negotiate with healthcare providers. A healthcare provider comes to the negotiating table with "We want to charge $50K to save Joe's life." Now, if sitting on the other side of the table negotiating for Joe is Joe's spouse, that is a pretty hard to negotiate against. The goal of insurance is to have somebody that doesn't really care about Joe say, no, let him die. Then when Steve shows up, the provider will accept less money, as his negotiator has already shown a willingness to let somebody die. Uncomfortable but true things to think about as it relates to the functioning of for-profit health insurance for life-and-death situations. You are essentially paying somebody to take a "let him die" position in a negotiation about you. Cheers!
The same Thompson who - along with his buddy - sold a bunch of his stock (after never selling UHS stock before) before telling his investors about the Fed investigation. You know, the one that knocked a massive chunk off the stock price. Face it, the guy was a scumbag. Not even a good capitalist. Just a scammer. Here, from a site you and the rest of MAGA trust: Slain UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson was facing DOJ probe for insider trading: report
I don't buy that. It's shallow thinking, like "all billionaires are bad". No they're not. Some actually produce things and bring value to the market. It's the parasites that need to be weeded out. For instance, I have zero issue with Bezos. He just seems like an easy target. So the working conditions aren't optimal, they're still rated higher than Walmart in every category. Why aren't we whining about Nancy Walton? She did nothing outside of being born.
Yeah, all billionaires are actually bad though. There really isn't a positive case for billionaires to exist, particularly when you have people living on the streets. Concentrated wealth is bad for society, full stop.
That is such a one-size-fits all approach that I reject it offhand. Just silly talk that leads to nowhere. Honestly, almost MAGA-like in its simple mindedness. I mean, this world you long for is never happening, so you might want to temper your goals a bit. Personally, it's Wall St, Private Equity, etc. where I would be focusing my efforts and Anti Trust, because that ALWAYS leads to good economic outcomes.
Without billionaires there wouldn't be companies that produce insane billionaire things like mega yachts and Bugattis. And those companies employ people. So at least billionaires allow shit like that.
I've probably said this before, but billionaires arent even fun now. At least your Rockefellers funded the arts and libraries and shit. Today you have Bezos spending a billion dollars to make a Lord of the Rings prequal no one likes because all these dorks have read exactly one book in their whole lives. They just buy the tackiest shit.
What's wrong with that? No would suggest not taking a "one-size fits all" stance on child molesters, I can pretty categorically say they are all bad, despite whatever positive human qualities they may possess. Some of them may even employ people and "create jobs." But I'm sure there are some people who fancy themselves thinking types that would be "well, no actually you cant say that, it leads nowhere being so categorical." Anyways, being a billionaire is not something you are born or some characteristic you cant help. Anyone can choose not to be a billionaire!
