Accused of misspending, Orange elections chief wrote 224 checks for $4.3M last weekend Amid scrutiny of his office’s spending, Orange County Supervisor of Elections Glen Gilzean spent $4.3 million over the weekend, making more than 200 transactions and leaving the office without the money for this week’s employee paychecks, Comptroller Phil Diamond said. The total flummoxed Diamond, who first sounded an alarm at a Board of County Commissioners meeting last week after he learned Gilzean had cut an unauthorized $1.1 million check to a nonprofit. That brought the total of payments deemed improper by him and Mayor Jerry Demings to $5 million — and that was before the latest round of spending. In the meeting last week, county leaders unanimously voted to freeze further payments to Gilzean’s office while Diamond investigated. In response, Gilzean warned that without further payments from the county, which provides his budget, he couldn’t meet his payroll. But then, Diamond said, he kept spending. “He paid these checks while knowing full well that he is required to meet his employees’ approximately $250,000 payroll this week. Sadly, he irresponsibly chose not to prioritize his employees,” Diamond said in his news release late Monday. Accused of misspending, Orange elections chief spent another $4.3M This is just another Desantis appointee doing what we expect them to do which is figuring out a way to spend a bunch of money without regards for their employees
One of DeSantis's appointees in Orange County (Andrew Bain) just dropped the charges against a former GOP Rep on his way out of office. Corruption rules! Florida Rep. Carolina Amesty will not face forgery charges
This is characteristic of the DeSantis regime. He appoints one of his pals to a government job. They use it to enrich themselves and other allies. Look at New College. Crony capitalism FTW. Eh, looks like diversion. If they're allowing normies with those sorts of crimes and criminal history to access diversion, I have no issue with it.
This sounds like worse than just “lack of fiscal conservatism” and gets more into the straight misappropriation of funds.
Yeah, I read that after responding to the thread title. I guess some people just can't help themselves when opportunity arises .
