Nissan faces possible bankruptcy

Nissans front wheel drive vehicles have one of the worst transmissions ever put in a car. They don’t advertise their Offroad capabilities in the pro 4x. Their suvs got so big they were useless off road… They issued the mark in almost every market segment. Their leadership sucked and their vision was.. off.
Keep an eye on Stwllantis (jeep) they have been suffering terribly for several years and their ceo just stepped down. If they can get their act together and focus on what them great.. they could regain market shares.. but if the new ceo is another European that lives small cars that are low tech.. jeep will sink.. fast. ( along with ram, fiat, etc..).

 

I had a 2003 G35. Beautiful car at the time.

 

I always forget about the Gladiator, lol. Probably because it’s a Jeep.

 

Good thing, if you love it that much, the 2024 version is basically same car.

 

I have a 1970 Fairlady Z, the JDM version...right hand drive. I previously owned a 1979 280ZX (Black Gold edition), a 1989 300ZX, a 1995 300ZX and a 1996 300ZX.

Nissan's quality nosedived after the Renault thing and their CVTs (transmission) have done them no favors.

Trivia:
1. Nissan originally sold cars in the US under the Datsun name out of fears the cars would tank here and they didn't want to sully their corporate name.
2. Z cars are referred to as Fairlady Zs in Japan and not the number designation we use which is related to engine displacement. The president of Nissan was visiting New York and became enamored with the Broadway musical "My Fair Lady." He insisted the company's sports car bear that name. Execs in the US convinced him that would not play well with American buyers, but it stuck with the JDM cars.

A good friend of mine's father owned the western hemisphere's largest collection of pre-1945 Rolls Royces. He had 35, ten were stored in a huge garage at his home and the rest in a warehouse. One had a solid copper body was used in a Robert Redford movie, IIRC. He was featured on a History Channel show featuring the marque. Every year we would take a couple of them out for the Gasparilla day parade and then again for the Ybor City night parade. One night we were driving back from Ybor to his home on Davis Island in his main parade car, referred to as "Putt Putt." My friend's dad was hammered so I was driving it for him. The headlights such as they were ran off of kerosene and had run out of fuel. "Not to worry", his father had battery powered lanterns. As we are driving home essentially on flashlights, I asked him how much Putt Putt was worth. He answered it was insured for $1.2 million, but that wasn't enough to cover the value. I was petrified the rest of the way home, there was lot to pay attention to driving that car as it was without dialing in its value. Happy camper when we got it home in one piece.

 

Yep, I've owned 3 versions of that model, all great. Still have a 2012.

If your like me, practicality wasn’t a variable in the equation in 1979.

 

Get the CVT checked out, Infiniti replaced the one in Mrs. Aging’s QX60 based on a diagnostic code they found at 72,000 miles. Had it in to get the fluid changed and they did the scan.

 

2nd opinions should be a mechanic thing as well as for physician diagnosis. Ive caught a handful of attempts myself over the years. Not saying you did or didn't need the repair just that I'd never trust a dealership alone.

If our daughter (passed away April 2023) in Savannah hadn’t needed our assistance so much there’d probably be half that. We are retired and live in a community where everything we need is close by. Only have 1 vehicle. Our son lives 10 minutes away. Our vehicle might last longer that me and my wife.

 

My first car was a 1987 Nissan Sentra SE. With the removable sunroof.

 

It’s a decent enough vehicle for how cheap it is. Can’t find many cars for $25,000 in this day and age that you can get leather and heated seats, heated steering wheel, sun roof, premium audio, power driver’s seat, and things like remote start and intelligent cruise control for that price (SV premium package is what we have) that are also great on fuel efficiency. I’d have rather gotten a Civic or Corolla/Hybrid Camry but they’re also a significant step up in price if you wanted all those features.

We just got a new Tacoma TRD Sport with the iForce Max hybrid engine a few months ago, and it ran us almost $50,000 for just the very basic model of it. It came with its the giant 14 inch tablet screen they toss in all their vehicles seemingly nowadays and heated seats, but that’s about it for add ons, lol. All the seats are manual and things like the sliding rear glass window you have to pay extra for as part of a package. Great truck, but a lot of features for the money missing from it.

 

But that's the problem, they don't make them like they did in the 2000's.
