This was our transition class so it wasn’t expected this would be a class filled with players who’d be the glue years down the line. Let’s look at their 2024 production: Kamari Wilson S. Now at Arizona State. 11 total tackles this past year. Shemar James LB: 59 total tackles, 2 sacks, 1 FF. 3 year starter and future NFL draft pick. Chris McClellan DT: Now at Missouri. 38 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 FF. Future NFL draft pick Trevor Ettiene RB: Now at UGA. 111 carries 571 yards 9 TD’s 5.1 ypc. Future NFL draft pick Devin Moore CB: 17 total tackles, 2 ints, 2 pass defenses. Possible NFL draft pick if he can stay healthy next season Tony Livingston TE: 7 receptions for 52 yards and 1 TD. Jamari Lyons DT: 20 total tackles in 2023. Came on strong at the end of the year but missed 2024 with injury. In line to be a starter or heavy rotational player in 2025. Had NFL potential. Jack Pyburn SSDE: 60 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF, 1 int. DL took off once he got his legs under him. Future NFL draft pick. Caleb Douglas WR: now at Texas Tech. 55 catches 762 yards 6 TD’s. Possible NFL draft pick Arlis Boardingham TE: recently entered the portal. 18 catches 128 yards 2 TD’s. Lost reps as the season went on. Andrew Savaiinaea TE: now at Nevada after starting career at UF as a DE. 6 catches for 35 yards. Jalen Farmer OG: now at Kentucky. Played in 4 total games this year Miguel Mitchell S: now at Arkansas. Played 4 games starting one. 12 total tackles 0.5 TFL David Conner OG: Colorado to Texas State. Nothing to report as he didn’t get any snaps this season. Christian Williams OG: recently to the portal. Never made an impact at UF Max Brown QB: to Charlotte now back into the portal. 3 TD’s 6 int’s for 561 yards Hayden Hansen TE: basically a 3 year starter. 13 catches 189 yards and 1 TD. NFL training camp player. Kids who decommitted after Napier was named HC: Nick Evers QB: OU then to Nebraska then to UCONN. 8 games played 5 TD’s 5 int’s 918 yards 54.2 completion percentage Jayden Gibson WR: went to OU. Missed 2024 season with a leg injury. Had 14 catches 375 yards and 5 TD’s in 2023. EJ Lightsey LB: UGA then to GT. Had 18 total tackles and 1 int. CJ Smith WR: UGA and now at Purdue where he had 6 catches for 69 yards this season. Francois Nolton DE: spent 2022 at Syracuse, entered the portal and hasn’t ended up anywhere
I saw an article that listed the number of snaps this year of the 2022 class by position. OL and DL? 0.
Great thread. Typical transition class. If anyone is getting bunched up about the attrition, it's a non issue. Just look at the full roster, the 22-24 portal classes (the portal goes both ways) and see who was passed up by signees from 23/24. At WR, CBN hit it out of the park with Pearsall, Dike and Badger. At DT, Jackson and Banks were big hits. The same on the OL. The big thing at OL was the 22 class signees were passed by the 23 signees, Harris and Lovett specifically. On the WR portal stuff, this years portal class is trending to be stunning!
Nice job pulling this together @bobbybaker86. You win some and lose some but I think the portal wins the last couple years tip the scales over the losses IMO
i would say that and what i’m happy about is that when you go by each player, and I should have added there composite ranking/star ranking, we got what we expected if you go off their star ranking. Hansen “overachieved”, Kamari “underachieved” but everyone else….we’re getting about what you expect out of them if you get what i’ saying. I’d say Pyburn has slightly overachieved/achieved what you’d expect
You gave me a great idea…ima edit it and add the kids who decommitted when Napier was named the HC edit: updated
I posted in another thread over the summer that I thought some of those good players that Napier wanted to keep may have been "encouraged" to leave by some of the position coaches from the last coaching staff. I still believe that...
Great work!! It's so interesting that most de-commits didn't do much. I actually think Napier did pretty well for a transition class.
agreed. Solid production when you see what the kids who are playing are being asked to do. Just wish Moore can stay healthy. He has immense potential
Expecting Moore to stay healthy is just a bridge too far. He's never completed a full season, so there is no reason to expect that for 2025. Gotta have some good backups for that slot.
I agree, however perhaps there's another way to look at it. If we can put together a deep rotation it may lower his snaps and get him through the season.
I count two current players that have been solid so far, Pyburn and James, and one is transferring. The others have been minor contributors at best. Etienne would have been on this list as well as McClellan but they left.
