... and Ole Miss had the #21 ranked high school class. And I think you know I'm referring to the total body of work. Not merely one game. The total body of work is that CBN's teams here have severely underperformed versus their recruiting class rankings each year. Even if I was the biggest CBN supporter, I wouldn't feel compelled to run away from that fact. Otherwise, I'd just be lying to myself. Some are treating this like a Hollywood movie, where you are expected to suspend disbelief before you turn on the games.
Amazing how Mullen was able to pull off 10 wins, then 11 wins with all those leaky pipes and exposed electrical wiring. Never understood Dan's aversion to conduit.
Obviously, years 1--2.5 were objectively not confidence inspiring. Losses due to talent and coaching (Arky/Mizzou last year and ut this year), including blow out losses at home where we were simply not competitive. I was one who opined on this board that bN was failing, and specifically not passing the "3 year test." SS disagreed and he is our coach. Turns out that BN finished year 3 with what is objectively a successful run of games and recruiting. His coaching hires brought player development that led us to defeat teams of equal or better talent and handle fSu easily. Is it enough for the long term? No. Is it enough to see a path to long term success for him? Yes. Not definitively, but yes. I am optimistic about next year based on the current trajectory and dearly hope BN continues to adapt and build rather than stay the course. By that I specifically mean I think we need an OC to develop our passing game as teams adapt to DJ (ie, more sophisticated route trees that put defenses on their heels rather than the run/deep ball thesis that is successful but can cause losses to teams with a stout 6 man box and solid secondary). DJ is young so the issue there may be more due to his ability to run more complex passing schemes (misreading them leads to picks). I think it important that DJ only runs when clear (his health is paramount) so quick routes (slants, rub routes, crossing routes) are something we will need to show. We also seem to need recruiting help on the OL as we are not attracting top HS talent there. However, The Solomon Thomas example may be instructive in this age. Spending large sums on a freshman OL who may develop or may leave may not be the appropriate allocation of funds versus getting multiple 3/4 star HS players and building them over years, rewarding those who stand out. I think it likely that 3 3/4 star Juniors starting on the OL is a better bet than 1 5 star freshman OL. As a side note, I cannot blame players for seeking top dollar for their service as most of us are guided somewhat in that principle by who we work for. I think uf is doing this the right way. All in all, I still have reservations about BN as a game day coach (same was said about Donovan who was a terrible game day coach his first 3-4 seasons). But BN showed he could address special teams, the NIL situation, and some needed coaching changes. Next year is a great opportunity with a very special leader in DJ to maximize our roster talent and make noise in the SEC/playoffs. Tough schedule but that is a fair expectation, and what BN was hired for, in my opinion.
What's the point in even hiring a new coach if you're just going to blame the previous coach for things still happening 3 years later? It's the lamest cop out in the world. We literally went from 3 straight 5-loss seasons under Ron Zook to winning a MNC in 2 years. That's because Meyer didn't sit around and blame Zook for all his challenges. He came in and got shit right. That's what we hired him to do.
The portal additions will be crucial, assuming the UF nucleus stays in place, In terms of preseason placement. I would say I feel more positive that UF will be able to compete at a winnng SEC level, going into 25, at this time of the year, than any other end of season scenario in the Napier era.
Zook never damaged the program to the extent Mullen did. No where near it. Again, it’s not debatable. Everyone sees it but you. Im not sure if your schtick is to take the opposite side of everything purposefully because you like the attention or you truly believe a lot of the nonsense you post. I’m guessing it’s the former …because no one can be this stupid.
The point, which everyone keeps glossing over, is good coaches figure it out. That's it, it's not complicated.
Wasn’t knocking the two wins against decent teams, just pointing out the rest of wins were against teams with losing records. I’m not even overtly negative about the situation. Facts=Crying on GC @pd_gator your drive by dislikes are glorious. Grow some balls and actually counter
I know, everyone knew it was a tough schedule going in (though it didn’t end up as tough) just thought that tweet was weird. Hey everyone, all of our loses were to ranked teams.
And all our losses were to top 15 and even top 5 teams. At least we won the games we were supposed to, and a couple we weren’t. It’s progress, and that’s pretty much what we were looking for when the season started. Progress and a winning season. And a bowl game. It’ll be interesting to see how many (or few) we have sit out the bowl game
Since I triggered you, apparently me continuing to read the rest of the board made you mad enough to tag me. CBN went 7-5 vs the hardest SOS in CFB history, and he did it with a TRUE FRESHAMN QB and a patchwork defensive backfield.... and you really are whining about those wins like they don't mean a damn thing. Congrats on being part of the MISERABLE side of the Gator fanbase people love to point and laugh at.
That is a fair and reasonable point. Let’s hope he is. I don’t think we’ve had this kind of wave of momentum coming out of a season since 2019. There is no reason not to at least feel good about things for the moment.
Lol, if I’ve been all over the board in multiple threads and starting threads bitching about stuff then I’d agree on the miserable statement. I have not. All I stated was 2 wins against teams with winning records and the rest against teams with losing records. Is that a false statement? This all started with what I thought was a weird tweet. That proceeded to me somehow crying. Again I haven’t been overly negative about much and haven’t disparaged what has been a nice turnaround. And drive by dislikes here and there is expected but when it’s 6 in a row and the poster doesn’t respond to any of it, I find that weak. Appreciate the response.
