I did read that Matt Campbell ( Iowa State ) and Jon Summerall from Tulane are the top 2 candidates. UNC will always be a basketball school, just like Kentucky. If I’m a coach you gotta be ok with that going in. I think this is why Mark Stoops is burning out at Kentucky. He’s realized that basketball will always triumph football. He’s even made comments in the past about it.
Everyone should. Let the salesmen pitch and the coaches coach. . . and help close from time to time. That was my take. Could easily work if paired with a bonified recruitment team, whose primary (if not sole) function is contracts and recruiting.
And that was kind of a problem. They were horrible in the draft. I think you've got it backwards. As a coach, he's second to none. And, BTW, beloved by his former players.
Do you ever watch Edelman's podcast? I do from time to time and, to hear those guys talk, I think he'd be a fine if not great HC. JMHO, but don't want "nice" coaches. I want coaches to set standards and hold me to uphold them.
I think coaching wise he would be great. I just don't think he would enjoy having to kiss the ass of a 17 year old 5 star player. (and I mean continually kiss the players ass, not once then offer him a scholly.)
The guy is filthy rich, past retirement age, and wants to be a college coach? He must be a miserable human being. He doesn't just look it.
Thing i've read the most is Belichick looked for players with a high level of professionalism and buy in -- high IQ guys as well. I just think all of these typical contradict what your getting from a college player. I also wouldn't see him adjusting the "minimal" amount of hours he's allowed to work with players.
So? If NC were committed, the NIL in place to compete, and the budget for him to hire well, he would win. Championship level? Who knows. But the guy knows talent and how to win football games. Seriously, you think Urban Meyer forgot how to coach the game when he left UF? Bill Bellichik forgot how to win football games, or could not because college is another level higher?
In the NFL I agree that he was a better coach than a GM; however, in college his deep connections to the NFL and large network of industry connections would be more useful as a GM. In terms of pure talent evaluation, he could keep the current "general manager" and the staff if he so chooses. Florida should also follow the Stanford model by keeping the off-field business operations separate from the on-field operations and make the GM report directly to the athletic director instead of the head coach.
Replacing a 73 year old with a 72 year old. Getting younger! Don’t think it makes sense to hire a HC that has never coached in college. Does not seem like he would have the patience to coddle and show love to a 17 year old HS kid during recruiting process
