Romania annuls election result after pro-Putin candidate's shock lead Romania's Constitutional Court has annulled the results of the first round of the country's presidential election, requiring the process to be rerun. The unprecedented decision followed the declassification of intelligence documents by President Klaus Iohannis which alleged that Russia orchestrated a campaign to promote far-right candidate Călin Georgescu on platforms such as TikTok and Telegram. The court said in a statement that it "annuls the entire electoral process regarding the election of the president of Romania." "The government will establish a new date for the election... as well as a new calendar program for carrying out the necessary actions," the statement added.
perhaps people will change their vote now that there is clear evidence of russian interference in support of a particular candidate.
I mean, did people have to wonder before who their preferred candidate is? Unless Russia literally tampered with votes, it seems pretty wild to annul an election because people watched TikTok videos. Isnt that just another kind of election interference by the court?
While I’ll admit to not following Romanian politics at all, from the BBC article I just read this seems like a wildly bad thing to do. I would maybe get saying a redo was necessary if you could definitively say something happened that made it literally impossible to accurately count votes, but “there were fake TikTok accounts!” seems like a remarkably thin reed to literally undo an election over. Particularly when the result is that the outgoing guy (who happens to be the one who revealed the existence of these TikTok accounts) just stays in office until they can figure out how to run a new election.
It might depend on which country the voters are from. In some countries, a lot of voters don't seem to have much of a problem with Russia interfering in an election......or a candidate knowingly accepting such help.
a lot of americans only see what main street media tell them. They dont see the actual intelligence reports.

What would have been nice is for the actual intelligence reports showing the evidence of election interference but those reports probably remain classified.
Actual trials for felony charges on J 6 and documents case before the election so evidence was shown to electorate should have been required. Nobody with serious felony charges pending should even be allowed on ballot
