Not sure I would go there, but I will say that Clayton and Martin are a unique tandem that is comparable to any backcourt in the country and who complement one another perfectly: both physical, athletic, competitive, confident, and experienced, one who is an elite scorer and the other an elite two-way player. Really does remind me of some of those good Scott Drew Baylor backcourts.
Yeah, I'm not ready to go all Steph or anything, but Walter is huge for the Gators. We only had 6 TOs vs a traditionally tough defense and we got 15. Aberdeen gave some great minutes tonight too.
He’s certainly the closest college player to Steph Curry His shot is becoming effortless (just looks easy for him out there now), has extreme range, and needs little time to shoot like Steph His three-point shot is respected so much that he can easily fake and drive, but is much more explosive than Steph.. I definitely see an NBA future now in him..
Like Steph: He has a one motion jumper, crazy range, and undying self confidence. That's about the end of the similarities, though.
I can see similarities in the shooting like others said, but Steph is a point guard with a lot better handle and Walt's a 2 in a 1's body. edit to add: but Walt is a great player for this team because I don't think anyone else on the roster can come close to replacing what he does as a scorer/shooter.
I'm really enjoy how he's integrated himself as well. By that I mean, there are nights where he's happy to not shoot and just start the offense and let others eat. But then he's had nights like last night. We were obviously struggling to score in the first half and Walt just took it upon himself to fix that. And he did.
He's much more Damian Lillard than Steph Curry, and I wouldn't go that far either. He's good, whether he's great one day will depend how he plays in March, on a deep run (then needs years of greatness in the NBA) Even his shooting form is more Damian than Steph. Steph shoots from his chest (because he learned how to shoot when he was young and undersized)
Yeah, fair. Clayton isn't pure one-motion like Steph. Walt does kinda pause before the shot, but it's pretty slight. Super quick release all the same.
Clayton’s shot reminds me of the shooting stroke of Caitlin Clark. Both have perfect shooting strokes. Walt will become instant points in the pros and will make a lot of money.
Does anyone see his play this year on driving showing more patience in letting the players set up and then smoothly taking it in for a layup or a short pullup? Like Pullin? I swear I think he learned some of his patience and how to fool defenders because he does not look like he is going to finish and then he blows by them, just like Pullin did so well.
My wife yells at him for deep, early clock shots, even when they rip the net. I told her wally has the green light baby. Anytime, anywhere on the court.
When I watch either of these two great 3 pt shooters, I always think of the other, classic square-up, let the ball have a little backspin and both have quick releases. Both should be coaches for training for 3 pointers and Ft’s. Walt should take some time with both Big Sam and Rueben. We are going to need them to make most of their freebies down the stretch and both SEC & NCAA tournaments.
My comparison of Walt would be to Deuce McBride. I am not saying that Walt is as good as Deuce McBride, but I can see the upside to get to the McBride level if Walt can become a stud on the defensive side of the ball. He certainly has the capability to do that because he is a terrific athlete.
