The largest group of schools that we've never met on the football field are from the current B12: TCU Texas Tech Iowa State Colorado Kansas Arizona Arizona State BYU
How does Bonagura have Minnesota playing GA Tech in the Pinstripe Bowl but also has them slotted in the Liberty Bowl against South Carolina?
Well I'm going to be selfish here and hope the we are in the Gator Bowl since I live just across the river from the stadium. Haven't been to Gainesville this year for a home game and I would live to take care of that with a bowl game attendence with my daughter who wants to start a family legacy of going to UF. I never imagined I would have so much fun watching the games with my daughter whose all in. SHE give Me recruiting news instead of the other way around. She follows all the outlets on recruiting and it blows my mind how she is so up on it. Anyway go Gator Bowl for the Gators.
I'll give you the two Arizona's that we're in the PAC10/12 for almost 50 years, but CU was only there for a dozen after leaving the BIG12 (previously the BIG8). Other former PAC12's we have never played are Stanford and Washington State. Also, if we are thinking historical conferences, BYU would be considered Mountain West or WAC over B12. Anyway, I think we are down to only 13 FBS schools we haven't played, so it would be nice to meet one of them this year in a bowl, IMO.
Big Cam has made a tremendous turnaround and this is really good news for the bowl. I am hopeful the majority of the team turns up for this bowl, unlike more recent UF bowl situations.
That's why I don't favor the Gasparilla Bowl, been there done that as of late. I don't care about Jacksonville as some have stated, but hope they get to go somewhere different, that the players can look forward to the trip.
If we play in the Gator Bowl I hope the sod is in a lot better shape than it was the last time we were there.
I would think a lot of their players would opt out since they aren't in the playoffs. Seems like they would anyway... maybe I'm wrong.
ESPN is telling me CBS has projected the Gators in the Gasparilla Bowl with Memphis, Duke or USF. OTOH ESPN is telling me its the Liberty Bowl with TCU. But here locally my radio [1010xl] had on Greg McGarity and Robert Levorock - the Gator Bowl powers that be saying they really, really, want the Gators and one way or another they are going to get them. So there is that.
If I were betting man I'd say the Gator Bowl proximity to Gainesville the fans they would bring up there I don't want to play there cuz the field is s*** in Jacksonville's not much of a trip for them
It is all about how many fannies in the seats for the actual game organizers. The TV guys (ESPN) want intrigue but they want to sell tickets, hotel rooms and food. I can see where the Gators are as good of an SEC team as there is for anyone who doesn't get to go to the playoffs. Would USCe fans travel to Jax the same way as Gators this year?
The SEC has a hand in the pecking order to some extent. They can be expected to try to shove us down to the least prestigious bowl possible. I am one of those who does not want the gasparilla at all. That will probably mean a low-quality opponent like usf. Let's play a P5 team we have never faced.
Liberty Bowl is one of the older bowl games but the Gators have never been in it. An invite was on the line in the 1970 Miami game, that the Gators lost in an upset.
