Ongoing UF Softball Commentary

Met him a few years ago during a weekend series. He always made me and my brother welcome to KSP stadium. He was a true ambassador for the Gator Softball program. Thanks Smiley.

 

I have so enjoyed “Smiley”. With that being said, the time comes for everyone when we have to retire and give way to younger studs to do their part and make their own legacy. Maybe CTW had to make the choice for him. Thanks Smiley and enjoy your retirement.

 

Wow! The 2025 season starts in two months! I am getting excited for this team to take the field. It’ll be the last run for three of my favorites. I hope they all have great seasons. Korbe, Kendra and Reagan hopefully will have All SEC and All American seasons. I will be cheering for them all the way to the Natty! I know it’s optimistic, but I know this team can get it done.

 

I was looking at the Sun Devil Classic games on the 2025 schedule because I am considering going to them. Back in 2019 I went to it (I think it was called the Littlewood Classic). All 5 games were played in ASU's stadium. It was neat to see Lorenz, Lindaman, Barnhill, Adams & company. It's much cooler to see them in person. (I've lived in Arizona since 2014.)

This year I see the Florida plays 2 games in ASU's stadium and 3 in Grand Canyon's stadium. Probably about a 2.5 hour drive for me. (I live south of Tucson.) It looks like ASU is the only game of consequence - too bad. But still I think it will be fun to see this team in person. I hope CTW plays a variety of line-ups, so I get to see everyone over the 5 games.

If I go, I look forward to paying back those of you who have provided play-by-play of the fall schedule - and hopefully those early season games not covered by tv or radio. I doubt any of the Sun Devil Classic games will be covered by the media.

This year we had close to a 100% renewal rate of season tickets, all thanks to your amazing loyalty and support! Due to this high renewal percentage of season tickets, we will not be offering a relocation window in December.

 

So, im.pulling into my driveway and a truck pulls in behind me. This is in Georgia btw, the guy gets out delivering a package in a Gator cap. I accept the package and comment on his cap
He tells me he is big into Gator softball. We talk about the team and pitching etc. Long story short, he lives in Homerville and is a season ticket holder and supports the team in a big way. Sits front row ,name is Albert. Great guy. Gator Nation is errwhere

 

Any portal transactions yet?

 

The only transaction that I have seen is Baylor two-way player Aliyah Binford is transferring to Ole Miss. She plays 3B and was the first game starting pitcher in Super Regionals last year against us. She was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs with a solo HR in that first game that the Gators won 4-2. She will be a 6th year grad student for Ole Miss and eligible to play this season.

 

Thanks! After Canaday’s transfer from Stanford to Tex Tech for 1 mil, I am scared when the portal is open.
Let me rant. NIL has created a monster worse than free agency. I can’t blame the ladies for taking the money. I feel for the coaches having to deal with the pressures to win and getting the money to keep the kids they worked so hard to recruit and develop. I feel sorry for us fans who love softball and was drawn to it by the “PURITY” of a true amateur sport, the ‘CONTINUITY” as good players stayed and graduated at one school and the “UNITY” during and after their careers.

I think the December 1-15 transfers may have to sit out the upcoming season if they are underclasman. Grad students are offered special considerations and are allowed to play. At least that was the requirement last year. It may have changed. The NCAA is always making changes to these transfer requirements.

 

It’s weird, they allowed some mid season transfers in basketball last year, but as far as I know you’re correct on the Dec transfers for undergrads in the fall sports. At one point, they’d announced that there would be no holdups on any transfers that moved during the windows, but it did seem that the baseball and softball rules stayed in tact. If they are still in tact, I think all it will take is someone to challenge them. The ncaa has lost pretty much every battle so far on the transfer rules, and they aren’t even putting up a fight anymore. File a lawsuit, get what you want…

 

Yep, Binford is a talented player, not surprised that she transferred, but to Ole Miss? That is surprising, maybe they are now investing in their historically poor softball program. I know that they have a new stadium.

 

Might be an academic thing.

Did anyone notice the huge brace Red had in the pictures from orange and blue? Looks like after a surgery.

 

I'm seeing reports that AK is in the portal? Please somebody tell me that's not true. She's one of my favorites to watch.

 

Just opened the softball website. The 2025 roster no longer lists AK47. I would hate to see her go.
