(VB) Ongoing Volleyball Thread

Known volleyball powerhouse South Carolina. Can’t believe that team swept us, lol.

are we better with/without stuckey?

 

I had hoped we were rounding into form. This is starting to remind me of how Mike White couldn't beat South Carolina regardless of their mediocrity. At the end of the day it doesn't matter as Kentucky clinched the outright SEC title anyway. Their 8th in a row. We can blame injuries or anything else, but 8 in a row is domination. Over those 8 seasons we are 3-12 against them and have never done better than a split in any season. I love Mary and think she is great, it is just frustrating to be a really good team and never become great. Also with the addition of Texas we have been relegated to 3rd best team in the conference. Still way better than most of our other athletic programs, so while I am being negative, I also want to point this out and even though it is a disappointing year so far, it is still pretty good. There are very few sports that we wouldn't be completely happy with a 3rd place finish in conference play right now. Anyway enough loathing, let's get it together and make a run in the post season, GET UP AND GO GATORS!

 

As a fan and no where near an expert, It appears to me these ladies play better when Stucky is playing. If I'm correct why isn't she playing? Please respond.

 

Big mistake not playing Stucky, zip, none, nada.

If playing Alec Rothe was the plan for post season playing her at LOH, it was a resounding failure. The reason Stucky was missed is because Taylor Parks kept getting the ball to her with predictable results, blocks and negative hitting %.

Just when I think this coaching staff has turned the corner on Lauren Hardin, they prove me wrong once again. This time, it cost UF any chance of hosting the first two rounds, the O Dome will be black.

Did I say Taylor Parks was like a robot continually feeding Rothe at the left pin? I wanted to make sure you got your question answered. Alexis Stucky even if not 100% would have been better at USC distributing the ball to the scorers.

I have to add, UF is the laughingstock of all women's college volleyball losing the way the Gators lost. It is richly deserved.

 

Can you provide links to UF being "the laughingstock of all womens college volleyball "? I'm sure that mensa group would provide a high level of entertainment

Random thoughts.

I have absolutely no inside information, but I think Stuckey isn't playing because she has suffered a setback with her knee - maybe a very serious setback. I think it unfortunately possible that the damage may be permanent -- to me, her injury looked like Joe Theisman's injury. I can't fault the coaches for protecting her.

I wish Ig4uf would come back to this thread.

If CMW was ever going to win a NC, it would have already happened. (I would love to be wrong.)

The service errors still drive me crazy, even though I realize they're not the most serious issue the team is dealing with.

What is our issue in the last two matches in our serve-receive play?

 

Gators struggling @ Georgia. Tied at 1-1 with the Bulldogs up 17-15 in the 3rd.

Hard to understand these last 2 losses.

 

Once again as I am the naysayer...this result was a coaching decision made after Thayer Hall graduated. Whether we could not or did not recruit legit big school OHs, that's the reason we are where we are. I actually think trying Alec at OH was worth a shot because to me it was evident they were not getting what they need with Hardin. If we pass good, Stuckey is the best option because she distributes better. I will take a few defense lapses from her lack of speed right now , you could alter some blocking to help that but there is no answer to out of system other than OH, especially when you have only 1 backcourt option and you only have that half the time. We are what we are...we need minimal mistakes to win and near perfection to beat anyone ranked in the top 15.

 

Maybe we will draw San Jose St in the tournament and can either forfeit or lose to put this season behind us.

 

I can't explain these last two matches either. So, just more pure speculation by me (and no, I haven't looked at the possible NCAA seedings):

maybe, after Wednesday's results, a "business decision" was made in an attempt to fall into a more favorable region?
